I'm considering selling my Angus and buying a Cross Check so I can run a multi-speed setup for run fixed or geared for longer rides and general fire road exploring. Or maybe a little off road fixed / SS fun?

Can my IRO / Deep V wheelset take the abuse of moderate, slowish mountain biking? I assume running wide cross tires won't be a problem. Is there any reason not to do this, apart from scuffing up some purdy rims? Would the tall aero profile rim walls get torn on sharp rocks?
