I always assumed that his ebay presence was a brand-building move, in order to eventually drive sales and word-of-mouth to his own website. If you look at the oldest mentions of the Downtube brand on this forum, it was from having them noticed in ebay auctions. I think people are beginning to hear about DT's on their own now.
