For one I needed a bike that fitted me well enough not to have 1) knee pain, 2) back pain, etc. The needs of the group ride; something I could ride for over 50 miles comfortably, climb hills with, weighed less, so I didn't have to worry about 1 & 2. The bike I have now climbs like a rocket and flat out flies but I can't bring that to a vintage ride.
