I know this isn't a cheap option, but if you are considering upgrading to a new triple crankset, I would have to recommend getting a compact crank instead. I was going through the same trouble as you, so I went with a compact and haven't looked back. I lost minimal range in my gearing and the shifting was improved dramatically. Only having to shift between two chainrings makes a big difference over three.
