LED MR-11 drop in replacement for a NiteRider TrailRat Halogen bulb

I stumbled upon this thread this morning where this was suggested and it has me intrigued.

I am not really A DIY light guy but I was thinking about getting a smart charger for my 10 watt NiteRider TrailRat 2.0 halogen set up. Being that I can get the charger and a higher capacity battery pack for less money at Battery Space than what the NiteRider charger alone costs, I was thinking about hacking up my cord to change out the connector anyway. If I was going to do this than I might as well get a 12 V battery pack and switch to a LED light assuming that this will work and it will use standard MR-11 LED bulb. Will this work as is or do I need to add something else like a voltage regulator or something? Also, I thought in general that LED lights are suppose to be brighter but I see there is some debate about this so I am wondering if it is worth the trouble. Although, I know I should get a much longer run time with a LED.
