I think 26 is the most widespread, but I've heard that 25.4 is... Dunno. And now that you've bent it out of shape, it'll not be easy to tell.
There are lotsa old bars & stems with weird diameters... 25.4, 25.8, 26, 26.4... Gotta whip out the caliper and measure first.
Now, 25.4 is the MTB standard plus road as well, 26 is the Italian road size, which is very widespread (only size I found bullhorns in), and 31.8 is the newish oversize standard, both road and MTB.
