So I have a final list of bikes:
2007 Cannondale Synapse Carbon 2 (approx. $2099) - Shop sent down the wrong size of this one for me to test ride (58 while it turns out i need a 56). Unfortunately they do not have a 56 in stock and can't get one until the second week of November. This is a beautiful bike, though. It is definitely the most attractive one on my list.
2007 Specialized Roubaix Comp Triple (approx. $2200) - Shop does not have one in stock currently, but I test rode last year's comp double (see later in post).
2007 Trek Pilot 5.0 (approx. $2000) - Shop does not have one built, but will in a couple of days. I instead rode a Pilot 2.1 (aluminum instead of carbon frame). Geometry seemed good, ride was so-so. Not as smooth as I'd hoped, but I know the carbon frame of the 5.0 will make a difference.
2007 Giant OCR A0 (approx. $2200) - Shop is ordering one for me. This is almost all Ultegra, which is different from the others (which are mainly 105 plus Ultegra rear). Not sure what to expect here. The shop had no road bikes from Giant in stock.
Anyway, so those are the top four. Of that list, I think the Synapse and the Roubaix are my top two before riding them based solely on appearance and what I've read.
The Specialized shop had last year's
Roubaix Comp Double (in the Gerolsteiner colors) in stock, which I test-rode. The price is $1599 on it (on sale, clearance, never been ridden before). It rode silky smooth and had a great feel to it. I still have to learn how to grip the bars properly on a road bike so as not to put too much pressure on the hands, but overall even that was good. It has Ultegra rear, unlike the 2007 models (which just have 105). It seems like a pretty good deal, and might sell pretty quickly (they've only had it in stock for 2 weeks).
Any thoughts? Should I jump on this soon rather than waiting for the Synapse to get in in November? Should I wait?
