The cyclist mistakes: 1. Not wearing a helmet, it may have prevented his death. 2. Not having any lights on his bike, lights may have helped him be seen by motorists better.
The motorist mistakes: 1. Having a part of a load he was hauling sticking out further then the 6" allowed & possibly having part of the load hanging out the left side. 2. Not driving slower then he was with the load he was hauling. 3. Not giving the cyclist at least 3' of room despite no existing law, this is assuming he had seen the cyclist in time to avoid the collision.
