On roads with two lanes each direction separated by a median, I often cross over to the median when there's a chance, and ride on the left side until the turn. Then I'll move back out into the left lane just before the turn to make sure no left-turning vehicles try to beat me through the intersection. Is it legal to ride on the median like this? It feels safe and cars always give plenty of room. Usually I am never in this position for more than 1/4 mile.
