I have these and have worn them with and without shorts. I much prefer them with shorts underneath. The tights tend to move ever so slightly which makes them uncomfortable for longer rides. With peformance elite shorts underneath they are perfect. They are very warm but breathable. They don't feel restricting either and unlike their shorts, they tend to run big. The shorts are much tighter. With thick tights such as the Triflex, you really do want to get them a little big.
