what do you think of this bike?

I've been shopping for months for the "right" starter bike; I'm a 51-yr old runner looking for a decent road bike for cross training, maybe duathon/triathlon/race at some point. Don't want to spend $1500 for new bike without knowing how I'll take to it, but want something that's "for real" so that I won't be discouraged by bad equipment.
This post says it's an early-1990's Centurion Ironman, yet in another post on these forums I read that WSI dropped the Centurion name late '80's.........? In any event, what's the read on this machine? I'm thinking it might be a pretty decent bike, especially for the price.
