And its a valid point. The pedals I wasnt happy with at all, bearing in mind I am using road shoes with them too, a horrible combo. The things I know I'll be able to tell the difference are with my pedals, seat and tires. My ass gets a bit numb at around mile 15 so I know an improvement can be made there. Going from 700x28 to 23's also an obvious one. Save going from a triple to a double, the rest is less obvious and there is where I wanted opinions, so that when the upgrade bug does hit, I'll have a fair idea of what is worth upgrading and why.
I am six months in to riding again, the last bike I rode was an old Dawes bike with Reynolds 531 and a couple of Campag parts. It was a decent bike back then, around 1989, but times have moved on

Don't say that in the C&V Forum. Dangle that Dawes in there and it'll be like steak to hungry wolves.
