Ride report. You're not gonna believe this...

Well, yeah. You probably will.

I have actually thought about how to word all this, so I don't sound like a jerk, or turn this into a political debate, because everyone here knows me well enough, that I could care a less about what car you drive, SUV, compact, pick-up, etc. (Heck, I drive a Suburban). So, please don't make this some cager hating political flame fest. Thank you.

On Sunday, I got a good taste of the mentallity of some people, and they just tick me right the heck off. I wouldn't necessarily say it was the vehicle he drove, but this guy sure didn't make SUV owners look good.

There I was, riding along a fairly quiet country road late Sunday afternoon. It was around 6pm, and the sun was starting to set. So, I dialed her up to 400watts to get home before dark. Ok, that was a joke.

Anyway, as I was riding along, I see this large rusty object in the road up ahead, it was on the opposite side of the road, and it was blocking oncoming traffic. This of course was odd, as there was little traffic to begin with. As I approached, I realized it was a rusty old trailer some guy must have lost off the back of his truck. It had a flat tire, and it was sticking halfway out into the road. Cars were stopping, and waiting so each could go around.

There was a pretty good line building up behind this trailer. About 6 cars or so. As I approached, the next guy just sat there waiting for me to go by. He was in a brand new white H2. He looked like a pretty big guy, about my size with a bit more weight on him. So, I figured, I'll pull over and ask this guy to help me move this thing off the road, before it gets dark and someone hits it.

I cross over the road, and lay my bike in the ditch, and start grabbing this trailer by the ball hitch. I then look up and wave to him and say loudly, "Could you please give me a hand? This thing is really hard to move with the flat tire."

As I was was heaving back and forth to get it to move, the guy just sat there staring at me, waiting for me to do the job for him. So, I wave to him again. And he just ignores me. As if he's not going to get his hands dirty for fear of smudging dirt on that brand new steering wheel. The whole time, I'm thinking, why am I bothering? I'm not the one who's obstructed. What the heck is wrong with this guy. Get off your duff and give me a hand, you lazy piece of...

Now granted, I could have just left this thing where it was. But the fact is, I drive on this road ocassionally too, and this was going to cause an accident. Someone was going to hit this thing, as it was hard to see to begin with, and it was getting dark. It was a major accident waiting to happen.

In the little car behind him was a younger gal with this sad yet scared look on her face, as if she was in a panic and didn't know what to do. It was as if the world was coming to an end, and she was going to die because she had to wait for me to move this garbage off the road. Almost like what one would expect to see in the eyes of someone who's just survived a horrific plane crash, and are now stranded on a desert island.

Anyway, after heaving away at this thing for a minute.... yeah, a whole 60 seconds or so..... I finally got this thing off the road, and into the ditch far enough for people to pass unobstructed.

The guy in the H2, didn't even give me thumbs up. No thanks, no smile, just a good slam on the gas pedal as he takes off. Sort of like what you would expect from a snot-nosed teenager when they scare the heck out of you while riding. The guy completely ignored me, as if my purpose in life was to serve him.

There's a term here that I think really does apply to this type of mentallity, but I won't even attempt to type it on this forum.

Now, excuse me, I need another cup of joe.
