@Hermes are you considering joining and local teams? There are a number of solid masters squads in SoCal, I'm sure your aware of most of them already.

Currently, I am a member of Ironfly that is an orange county / LA team. I know the members from racing at Velo Sports Center in Carson.

I met a guy from UC Cyclery / JW Flooring at Equinox gym who was telling me about their masters racing team.

At this point, I am thinking about joining a local team. I could keep my Ironfly team for track and have a different one for road. Of course, that entails more clothes.

I was going to talk with Johnny Walsh who is a master track buddy about local teams. He moved to SD last year from LA.

So, yes, I am open and no, I do not have a database of local teams. Once we get moved in, I can focus more on local teams. My major racing goal for the next two years is Masters Track Worlds at Carson.

did my saturday connection of 2 group rides. 3 hours, 67 miles and 191tss. Ran into @wktmeow. I made the break of 5, but was being abused by those guys. Fell off, dragged myself back on a couple times. Finished 4th of the 4 remaining on the final sprint.

Nice chatting with you briefly. I missed the break and tried to work with the chase effort. I think we were just about on you on Portola at one point but then someone opened up a gap again and you guys pulled away. At least I think that was your group.

Did a lot of work this time, 213 TSS for me.

3 hours z2ish with friends tomorrow.

Rode for about 2 hours today after not riding the last seven days. Started pretty strong, then the heat hit, and I started hurting. I did my yardwork last night, and it was way hotter than I realized. Lost 5 pounds in the 2 hours I was working in the yard. I'm pretty sure I had not yet recovered from that.

I don't think I'm going to bother riding tomorrow.

for sure. always happy to meet forum peeps.

I worked hard on mountain home but it looks like Benkowski crushed it. Moved me from 2nd to 3rd on Strava for that segment, actually, pulling 20 seconds off our lead. That's probably when everything fell apart.

Long group ride to finish out a hard week. 80 miles and 7000 feet climbed. Recovered surprisingly well after yesterday's road race and hit threshold for the first 25' climb. Happy with that considering I could barely do 90% on thursday.

For the week:
320 miles, 19 hours, 19,000 feet, 970 TSS

Next week easy, District fake masters category (30-34) RR on Saturday. Last I checked it was me, three cat 3 teammates, and one other 3 signed up. Hopefully more register this week.

90mins on zwift, once again took the lazy route by not changing the tire to go out (plus it's hot). what I wanted to do: some 4min efforts at 300w (upper z5). what actually happened: did 4 mins at 292 and 3 min at 285 before deciding I didn't have it in me (probably mostly mentally) so just rode tempo for 100 tss. at 70CTL

90 minutes before it got crazy hot. Legs weren't there after a few weeks off the bike, mental wasn't great either.

Rolled around a national cemetery (slowly of course) halfway for a bit of life perspective and contemplation.

Tweaked my right hamstring and glute last week. Tried to stretch and ride through it and that wasn't the smartest choice. Have been off the bike for a few days now and feel like a slug.

I decided to start doing my workouts in the morning. It's been way too hot to ride in the afternoons.

I made myself get out of bed at 5 and get on the trainer in the garage. It was still 86 degrees in the garage.

chapeau

getting up early is rough, but certainly not as rough as getting baked in humidity and heat

Where I live, you can do both! I'm regularly out at sunrise and come back soaked with sweat.

Last week another 800TSS.

Since I got back to work I've been trying to make it all fit.

TSB is always slightly negative, never going too deep. Ramp rate a very slow/steady positive. CTL June 6th of 76, CTL 8/15 of 103.

^Well done .. any changes to your training approach? Increased intensity to account for less available time or just back to the same approach?

It seems the models slam "fitness" (CTL or Long Term Stress) for taking time off. A week off kills these values.

If anything I have decreased intensity of my rides. Sleep/recovery is my weak spot, so I am approaching it with the goal to improve very slowly, and try to improve each week.

it's been my experience that CTL/LTS is a pretty accurate predictor of my performance. It could be because I ride without much pop on my best days, the improved conditioning/endurance is what I feel the most. I definitely perceive a difference between now and 2 months ago. Everything felt like a huge effort. Now I can kind of cruise and take super-threshold efforts a few times to try and shape the race.

I am very tired though. I hate rest weeks, but an extra easy day is definitely in store.

This was one of the few days that I actually listened to my coach and didn't get on the bike. Yesterday's race was apparently 274 TSS.
