Don't know yet whether or not I'll be blind as the glasses I used were "probably not" counterfeit.

You know, I went outside during the eclipse. According to the news, that means I'm going to go blind.

My head hurts a little, but not too bad.

I didn't have glasses but made a "pinhole projector" thingy so I didn't look in to the sun but got to see the partial eclipse.

I think my head ache is from not enough sleep last night..

I think my headache is a lingering effect of me accidentally smacking my head against the door frame while taking the dog out on Saturday morning. I'm pretty sure I gave myself a concussion when I did that.

The eclipse was pretty underwhelming down here. It was only 60% and if didn't see it though a pinhole, I wouldn't have known it happened.

96% was pretty cool. The spacing between the leaves in the trees where I was acted like hundreds of pinholes to watch it through which made for some cool shadows.

That was really cool and I wasn't expecting it.

Hey South Bay/Silicon Valley types:

My son has a soccer tournament at the Twin Creeks Sports Complex in Sunnyvale this weekend. Of course, I'd like to take my bike and get some riding in between games, if possible. It looks like there's a trail around the salt ponds there. Anyone know if it's paved and how far it goes? Strava and Google Earth suggest it's all gravel.

Yeah, the way it changed with lots of little arcs was really neat. I thought about taking a picture, but then thought that a year from now, I'd be like,"why do I have all these pictures of shadows on the sidewalk outside my office?" The way they shimmered and moved was neat. I tried to look at the corona, but I didn't really see much (put my thumb in the wrong place at first and saw some spots then a little of it).

@caloso I've never ridden there, but I think it's all gravel.

The eclipse was more fun than I expected. It was a bit cloudy here and nobody had gotten glasses, so we shared a welding shield with the correct rating. The shield somehow filtered out the clouds so we could see the partial well, only 75% here.

Someone posted a picture of a "colander pinhole viewer". Basically every hole in the colander shadow was a pinhole so the holes were all "eclipse shaped". Pretty cool.

Went fishing today for the first time in 11 years (according the expired license I found in my tackle box). It was fun, I caught one Walleye and 3 Northern Pike.

Best part was my buddies kid caught more fish with his junky little kid stuff than his dad who has top of the line equipment.

All fish were released.

Agreed. Despite being in the zOMG path of totality with people going nuts over this for the past few years, I didn't pay much attention until last night. I read about the shadows and all of the other elements and got VERY excited. I wasn't even planning to bust out a camera, but I decided to do so about 10am. (The partial eclipse started @ 10:20 and totality happened at 11:30.)

I'm super glad I took some shots. This solar prominence was astonishing -- both in terms of the image and what is actually going on.

There was HUGE hype here, and I have to say it exceeded expectations. I'd recommend to anyone to travel somewhere in path of totality for the April 2024 one. Yeah--far out there, but it's truly incredible.

One more. Couldn't resist.

This is the "diamond ring" at the tail-end of totality. You can see "Baily's Beads".

I used to fish quite a bit in the FL keys where I grew up.. good times.

The fish always seemed huge/strong before you get 'em out of the water, then you're like "damn, this thing is tiny..."

Wow that's crazy! I had no idea that is how the test started..

I just did one recently; running on a treadmill was bad enough - running next to a car like that would've been even worse..

I can't remember if it was a bike computer or a power meter but I recall reading about someone riding around with a 20 or 30 lbs backpack for measuring some riding metric, this was way back. Sort of like riding around with a PC and massive battery to do Strava.
