Is it me or does Jan's shifter look a little odd at the top?
Maybe the angle, or is there something different about it?

it's true, he's in 90th place but it's only 26 seconds if you think about it....for a lot of guys doing romandie this race is for training. The italians are going to be going hard for the giro as will other giro contenders; for those who are aiming for the tour, there's no point in killing yourself at this point. McEwen is likely doing the giro and is interested in stage wins. And he never finishes the giro anyways- he wins stages and bails after 2 weeks.

Ullrich is doing both the Romandie and Giro as a buildup for the TdF. He's said he was riding hard for the two weeks previous to this race. Meaning he's training through it. I'd be will to be some of the guys looking to win this race are coming off a recovery week.
I bet when Basso beats Ullrich at the Giro people will think that means something for the TdF, even though Jan said he's not racing to win the Giro and specifically said it won't be to compare himself to Basso / CSC.

Why do I flog myself by having annointed Der Kaiser as my hero? Oh, yeah...those (dusty) palmeres. But in the meantime Ulle's 10 minutes, 26 seconds off the overall leader in the GC! *blacking out...THUD*

He dropped in overall time because he was quite clearly staying out of the front groups that were leading up to the finish. No sense risking a crash.
Do you people not understand what it means to train through a race. He'll be testing himself - but for short distances on parts of the stage that are safe and probably don't matter. It isn't about results in ToR.
