I didn't vote in this poll. My failure to vote is meant to demonstrate my severe, violent ambivalence.

Ok, there is real schizoid thinking on BF about who doped and who didn't. Landis fails a drug test, that by all accounts is very scientifically valid(the isotope test) Many still do not believe he doped. Armstrong has a mountain of anecdotal evidence, and eyewitness accounts to support that he doped, along with 6 positive results(albeit only after the fact for research, and not under the proper controls to be a valid drug control test) and many do not believe he doped. Now Lemond, of whom I would venture to guess most of the voters in the poll actually know very little, and with no other evidence than "they all doped back then" and the vast majority believe he doped.

The truth 'appears to be Armstrong, our hero, couldn't have doped, Landis, our new hero certainl must not have doped, and will be exonerated, but Lemond, the whiny old has been jerk certainly doped. Emotional appeal appears to hold much more sway than facts, and logic.

I continue to stand behind my statement: All the top GC riders dope, have doped and will continue doping..... TO me it is an equal playing field since most of the top contenders are still hovering around a 45-48% hematocrit level after 3 weeks of hard racing. The people I feel bad for are the riders that can not afford to dope (lowly domestiques) and the families of riders who die due to doping (blood clots, strokes, heart attacks).

Doping will contimue just as it has for close to a century (in cycling and other sports). Bike racing will still be exciting and I will still love riding.

Today isn't 1989. And even after EPO became available, it might have been years before teams were able to properly utilize it. If it was widespread and used efficiently from the start, then specific doctors such as Ferrari shouldn't have been as valuable as they were.

Lemond..... I liked watching your races (great comeback from being shot....BUT 1.) you also doped (everyone does) 2.) get over yourself (no one likes a over weight whiner)
1)you take dope?

2)He rate to be a whiner as an old fat guy. He was there and we wasn't.

I'm trying to figure this out, help me please.

A. LeMond used EPO in its earliest days, perhaps even slipped some from the FDA trials.

B. EPO is officially released in 1991.

C. In 1991 LeMond, the defending TdF champ, is shot out the back of the peloton like a cannon.

I don't get it. Did the other guys get better EPO while LeMond was stuck with old stale test samples?

The other allegation is that he did b/c "they all do." Possible perhaps, but not provable.

The other issue is that LeMond is intensely disliked by LA and vice versa. Hence the LA fanclub dislikes LeMond. (The LeMond fanclub is getting old.)

While I might wish that 2 of only 3 (pending) US TdF champs got along the fact that they don't doesn't affect me personally and I see no reason to get emotional about it.

The only real fact is that LeMond, like LA, have turned in the same number of in-competition positive results. Zero. Combine that with the fact that I've never seen him dope and I vote NO.

edit: Well I would've voted no, but I'm too late.

Actually, the level of Sour Grape Juice in Lemond's blood is off the charts. But they don't test for that.

Not quite.

7th overall at 13 minutes.

True.

Is that proof that he doped? Maybe he did get the old stuff.

13 minutes back may or may not qualify as being "shot out the back......" but it's still pretty poor for a defending champ who still (at that time) seemed to have some years left.

It's real poor for a defending champ who according to the collective wisdom of BikeForums.net was a doper.
