You might want to reconsider. Eat. Electrolyte tablets, as mentioned above, is a must. Those plastic oval coin "purse" with the slit on one side, works well for these tablets. Take 4 - 5 packets of gel. Doesn't weight much and better than bonking.

I should have mentioned that I mixed a little water in with the gel when putting it in the flask. I used 3 hammer gel single servings and 1 - 2 oz. of water. I had no problem getting all the gunk out. Also, with the extra bit of water in there you don't need a swig of water with it. The swig of water is still nice, but if the pace kicks up, you can do without it.

that's very good advice! for any sorts of racing, the key is to do what worked for you while training. I went and did gaterade in a marathon and felt very sick because I was used to just doing goo and water.

That's a good long race! I cant wait to see how you do

they just announced the crit for the following day. At this point if all goes well I will come home with enough races to upgrade to cat 4.
