Break attempt in a circuit race with 6 miles to go. Got caught with just under .5 miles.

for the last few Wednesdays we've been having a lunch mtb ride at work. A few of the guys (mainly older) are race-fit or road/track racers themselves so it makes for some good fun.

im in the market for a used hardtail 26 or 29er w disc brakes atm.

Sorry about the DNF. That's the race with the 1.5 mi of dirt and gravel, right? How is that section? It looks like you are pretty safe in the tire tracks, but pics can be misleading. Any real gravelly or loose spots to deal with?

Yeah, it's either from a 10-lap scratch race or 15 lap snowball race.

xc race...my first mtb race (and 7th time on a mtb). The course was pretty technical, lots of rocks, roots, punchy little climbs...50 miles was 4+ hrs, and hard. But really fun. I'll be doing it again. Probably do some more endurance type stuff, as well as team realys.
Im on a Trek Superfly. FS 29er.

With arms like that, anyone would need a FS.

Pretty bumpy and dusty, but generally well-packed; the tire tracks went the whole length of the gravel section. About halfway through there was a minefield of ejected bottles from one particularly bad/surprising bump. The gravel section was pretty flat, but of course, on gravel a lot of energy is used in just going at-speed; it definitely took its toll (and the little leg-burner of a hill afterwards didn't help things, either). There was a bike mechanic stationed right after the gravel section so riders who flatted could get another tube to be able to ride home.

Tour of Tucker County Cat 4/5. Race ended with Sugarlands Climb - 4.9 miles at an average of 7%, and it was a wee bit warm. Just in front of me is the winner who beat me by a second according to the results.

My teammate had just been off the front for a few laps, so once he got caught I countered.

You can't see my face but there is suffering. Final lap at Somerville after being OTF most of the race. I can't even stay down in the speed bars anymore. I'm cranking so hard my bike is flopping. Doing everything I possibly can to stay away.
