The only possible solution to doping

There's only one way to minimize doping (note I did not say eliminate it): You set a minimum time to finish the race and anyone who's faster than that is elminated. So basically you're saying something like: "Whoever crosses the finish line first in 98 hours or more (and NOT less) wins the race. If you finish in 97 hours you're disqualified." And you'd do the same for every stage too. That's it. There's no other solution.

That is the single dumbest suggestion I've read to date. So rider's are incapable of slowing down?

Make the races easier so riders don't feel the need to dope.

If the races are easier, then they just go faster...and to get faster, they take PEDs.

I can't believe I've responded to this thread...

Just make the slowest person the winner, but give everyone a medal for effort and personal achievement.

Then there will be none of that negativity.

You're all missing the point. I'm not actually suggesting it, what I'm saying is that this is the only way to truly stop doping. In other words, there's no way to stop it without changing the competition itself. Testing obviously doesn't work and you're not gonna get the riders to stop as long as they make money off winning.

To stop doping you would have to change the culture of bike racing. In golf the culture is that you just don't cheat. In order to stop doping in cycling you would need to develop the same sort of culture. In other words it would have to become a middle class activity. While it is moving in that direction in the US, I don't see it happening worldwide.

See that other post (somewhere on bikeforums) where they show that a number of golfers are doping.

And baseball is definitely an upper middle class sport yet they've got plenty of drug use.

Nice try. You obviously are "back seat critiquing" as you've stated this solution is not the only one and there's another way. To claim that, you must KNOW of another way. What is it?

If it was possible to ensure that someone was clean via testing, all the pros would be clean now.
