I can turn 265 watts - how in the living hell can somebody put that out and go 55 or 56 and change, and i can't come close? i've got a TT bike; i'm aero; i'm good lookin'; i drink german beer when i carbo-load. why can't i do this?
Everyone knows the good stuff comes from Belgium.

VERY minor, probably more minor than Dr.W's analytic cycling result, as I presume analytic cycling scales aero drag as a function of mass. On flats, you'd get a tiny boost from very slightly less rolling resistance, and you'd get a couple of seconds from acceleration at the start/turnaround.

This is a walk down memeory lane. Haven't time trialed in a long, long time but back in my younger tri days 1 hour was our team standard for the 40k. 22 minutes on the swim and a 36 min 10k and viola a sub-2 hour olympic distance tri...Now need to see if I can just manage the bike part.

Bikes: Ever changing..as of 2-24-09: 2003 Giant TCR Team Once, Sampson titanium, 1992 Paramount Series 3, 2003 Cervelo P3, 70s Raleigh Record fixed gear, 70s Fuji SL-12 commuter, mid 90s Klein MTB. Plus two or three frames lurking, plus 5 wife/kids rides

Florida State TT tomorrow. It'll be interesting to see how many people go under an hour. Hoping for NO wind, the course is flat.

Murphy's Law is in full effect so far:

I went out tonight for a spin with the race wheels on and promptly ran over something and cut a huge flap out of my rear Michelin Pro Race 2. Go back home, discover I don't have any 80mm valve length tubes for the Zipp wheel. Frantically call my friend the shop owner at home..luckily he had one in his van. Did I mention that this sucker is IMPOSSIBLE to get a tire on without one of those pliers gadgets? I have incipient blood blisters on my hands now.

You laugh, but Tim Brummer did a 40K on a bent in 52:22 at 28.5 mph and a 225W average. Now, stick somone on there that can maintain 300W for an hour, and you have the makings for a record. Of course, with the UCI and USCF if it were legal, it'd be immediately illegal. Heck, even Lance said if they'd allow recumbents in the tour, he'd be using one. The aero advantage is HUGE.

Tells me that I'm not very aero. For me it takes right at 300 watts to do it in an hour. (even with disc, tri spoke, and tt helmet) But I'm bigger, and my postion on my TT bike could use a lot of work.
