Wouldn't they still be based in Texas and partially owned by Lance?

T-Mobile, where great riders go to get paid for mediocrity.

Perhaps George knows more than most in terms of potential news sponsors?

EDIT: I guess what I was trying to say with the last part is that Disco may be gone, but the team will still be around and it will still be an American team by ownership of the managing company. I assume it will be registered in the US as well...regardless of who the title sponsor eventually ends up being.
Of course. Hincapie doesn't ride for Discovery. He rides for Tailwind and Johann. They should have a new sponsor soon. The team won't stop at the end of '07. Bruyneel's been talking about a Chinese sponsor.

It is possible that the sponsor will not be US based.....I have heard China? Maybe? MIO is coming on at the Tour this year.....I believe equivalent to AMD's level...MIO make GPS systems by the way (discussed in a thread on here)....

I think he is talking to them to help motivate a new sponsor personally....them not signing and the Team jumping ship because the sponsor is waiting to sign is a good motivator in my opinion....

I have to agree with asgelle on this one. If Hincapie were doping, I think that teams such as T-Mobile, CSC, or even Slipstream would be less appealing to him. And yes, I know that list of teams seems like a "which does not belong" question...

Hincapie's parents are from Columbia. Columbia is in South America. Argentina is in South America. Heado is Argentinian. We could keep going and end up with Kevin Bacon pretty soon.

or maybe Wal-mart would be a good fit as sponsor?

then the TV ads could show the team riding through the stores on their Corsas (walmart CF bike).

i have no details or citations, but what i've read is that 7-eleven-motorolla did not morph into postal-disco. someone posted elsewhere a while ago that motorolla and postal competed against one another in the year or so they overlapped, and had different owners.

correct.

It all started out as Eddie Borysewicz's baby...

Discovery's history is this:

Sunkyong 1988
Montgomery/Avenir 1989-1990
Suburau-Montgomery1991-1994
Montgomery/Bell 1995
US Postal 1996-2003
Discovery 2004-2007

(some years may be incorrect)

What was the tie-in with Montgomery/Bell and Postal? I thought Eddie B ran Montgomery and afaik he wasn't part of Postal.

Subaru-Montgomery only went through 1993. There wasn't a team in 1994. What I heard was that Tom Weisel didn't like the fact that Subaru-Montgomery was invited to the 1993 Tour but was supposed to form a composite team with one of the smaller French teams. Two of my teammates from 1994 left in 1995 to ride for Montgomery/Bell and then Postal.

Eddie B ran the Postal team in 1996 and I think he ran the domestic squad in 1997 and maybe 1998 when Postal first started doing Euro races.
