Cliff...
I experience this when my blood sugars are high (I'm a Type 1 diabetic). A symptom of elevated glucose levels in my blood is dry mouth and I have linked the taste to tasting my fillings...you know, when droping the hammer and punishing your guads in a workout.
How are your teeth?

Maybe it is the taste of fear. Rock climbers claim to get a coppery taste in thier mouth after a harrowing climb or fall. I think it is supposed to be from the adrenalin or a surge of testosterone or something.

It's no big deal it's just that at that HR point you start to metaphysically change...into Iron Man!
*I, Am, Iron Man, Do Do Do Do Do Do Do, Da Da Da*
I've been playing a little too much Guitar Hero on the weekends.

It's bugs. Breath through your nose.
Or it could just be the saliva evaporating quickly and leaving a hard water taste in your mouth. What 'er ya drinking?
