Dr. Pete, excellent info and thanks. The only problem is that I feel myself being sucked into the darkside...
Now, how would Zipps work on this kind of road I wonder?

It would scare me to death to put a good rim on and ride these roads. That one is a good road by the way.

This makes me happier and happier that I bought a CAAD8 frame. Can't wait to build it up, but I have to get to my self imposed "race weight" before I can do it.
Sounds like I got a great bang for the buck considering I got the frame and Slice premium+ fork for $310.

The Dr. summed things up rather well on the CAAD. I also test drove one and found it very well suited to a secondary (if thats even a good word) bike. Only owned a Cannondale Delta V MTB from the early 90's but have always wanted one of their road bikes.
Gives me a reason to sell my IBEX.

BTW FWIW, the CAAD8/9, Six13, and System Six all use the same rear triangle. The 8 vs 9 differences are the top and down tubes, I'm not sure how much that changes the stiffness, but if you look at the frames side by side it's easy to see.
Dr. Pete, what size is your CAAD8? It looks like a 58 from the pics, I'm just curious.

• CF numbskull bikes (numb road feel, I test rode the bike along with the Madone, the Scott CR-1, a Specialized Tarmac and a couple of others). None of them had the Six13 zing (more subjectivity, results may vary)
That last critique is a universal CF trait in my experience. After 15+ years riding Titanium bicycles, I liked the road feel the Six13 conveyed, largely due to the aluminum rear triangle. The most amazing thing about Cdales is how they went from the parking meter post feel of the old CAAD 3 rear triangle to this tapered seat stay affair on the newer bikes (including my Six13) that is incredibly compliant for Alu, to the point where it doesn't feel like aluminum.
This is all just one bike weenie's opinion, and it's splitting hairs. That's what we do here. But it's all relative hooey. Here's the ultimate truth: as my pal Rich from The Bike Doctor (Middletown, NY) says, 'Once you get over three grand, none of it sucks'. To be sure.
If Dr. Pete winds up with his Pinarello back and this CAAD bike as a second bike (highly recommended) he'll be a MUCH happier camper. The Pinarello can stay home when the weather sucks, it will get HALF the road miles and wear and tear, and it will be nice to switch off between bikes. If you're a hard core roadie DP, you MUST have more than one road bike, for a bunch of reasons. I love having a Ti bike and the Six13, and it's also great having a bike you don't feel bad about riding in the slop. When the parts sieze up from wearing out you replace them. The frame probably won't die before you get something to replace it out of sheer boredom. The problem for me with my Ibis Ti is that it's the best friggin road bike EVER, so I'll just ride it until it detonates.
