Must be painful for Amgen - having to spend all that money to ensure that none of the riders are using Amgen products. If EPO was legal there would probably be Amgen logos on every team's jerseys.

And the Giro et al. I t seems that every day brings new "drama," with charges, countercharges, denials etc etc etc. You're in, you're out. Puerto is on again - kinda. In the the last two days we had all of that plus a race that was nullified as the racers felt that the promoter chose a finish that was too dangerous. Now UCI is in ASO's face over the Tour exclusions. Hard to keep up with all the "interesting" developments.

from cyclingnews.com

The second stage of the Giro della Provincia di Grosseto was annulled by the race jury following protest by the riders, who claimed the final kilometres too unsafe. The peloton approached the final kilometre together and did not contest the sprint.

The riders viewed the curves and narrow roads in the final kilometre as too dangerous, although the president of the organising group, Adriano Amici, disagreed. "The finale was the same that was proposed to the Italian cycling federation technical commission for approval," said Amici. "There were no variations ... The presence of dangerous curves in the final kilometre of this stage were communicated to the teams during the pre-race meeting on Thursday."

Well then, i guess that covers it.

Why didn't they just tell the riders to ride slower through that portion of the course?

The race organizers should be compelled to participate in the last 3km of the bicycle race. Then we'd see how safe they felt it was. The astonishing oblivion of Euro race organizers to the incredible hazards posed by some of the ******** race finishes in many UCI events is awesome for its arrogance alone. Let's not even get started on how STUPID this all seems to anyone who has ever raced a road bicycle.

UCI bicycle racing is the most dangerous, demanding major pro sport on the planet. And of major sports it has the crappiest pay. The people that organize it in Europe really do act like unspeakable asshats half the time. Go figure.
