1.) To get to the point where I'm riding in the first 20 guys most of the time.
2.) To then muster the snot to do things like help my team mates chase down the breaks they don't want to succeed.
I'll worry about winning if 90% of the peloton crashes behind me on the last lap.
Regardless, I was expecting it to be a horrible cycling experience and it was quite the opposite. I'm surprised how much I'm enjoying the racing. The lack of crashes is a big help. Another incident free Vets race today.

Good effort, Pcad. Makes me grateful our races are 30 minutes from the house, start early afternoon at 45° and they unlock the restrooms before the race.
We don't have nearly the character or atmosphere you guys do, though. Also grateful for that.

I had my second collegiate race on sunday morning. While you couldn't feel the wind in the pack, the second I got dropped and found myself in ITT land, the wind really hurt when it was coming right at me.
Good report pcad, may your self loathing take you to the next level.

I would take great inspiration from your kind words had it not been successfully beaten out of me time and again by the realities of amateur bicycle racing. My goals are:
1.) To get to the point where I'm riding in the first 20 guys most of the time.
2.) To then muster the snot to do things like help my team mates chase down the breaks they don't want to succeed.
I'll worry about winning if 90% of the peloton crashes behind me on the last lap.

my instincts tell me that you're already capable of 1. and 2., but you're psyching yourself out of attaining said goals.

Video. I am the guy with the pink lid sticking out from under the Giro, Master's race video.
At the end I appear to be DFL +14 or so. That's somewhat better than the week before. There were some dropees too.

unless you finish in the money, it really doesn't matter. any way, if you wanted to finish higher, don't freewheel uphill.
