I think being the only person to ever win 6 TDF's in a row is enough motivation for him to do his best. I'm not saying he has it in the bag or anything, there's a lot of motivated riders who will do their best to stop him, but I don't think having a drink with a celeb or two will hurt him.

So he shouldn't hang out with women, drink a glass of wine or allow himself to appear in magazines?

I don't know how things work in Europe but I'm going to guess that Zabel and Ulrich probably do the same.

And Sam, I really really don't want to start a debate but I'm curious about why you're so sure Lance will not win in 2004. Know something that we don't? He had a horrible 2003 tour and still won.

Laggard, I'm playin the odds man, playin the odds.

His focus will be off in my opinion and the competitions focus is stronger than ever. They want it worse than he does IMO. The man who dethrones Lance will become an instant giant in cycling. And it will be all the more sensational to stop him before he sets the new 6 win precedence.

He will be attacked next year like he has never seen before, and it would not surprise me if a bit of under the table cooperation between European squads is in effect.

No wife to keep him away from more and more of the celeb scene will affect this. The involvement with the party crowd will only increase with no wife now.

i think he wants it more than anyone else, or atleast he has the power to put that want to his legs and kick some ass. the only other person i am hoping atleast makes the podium is Tyler. Why will he be distracted. i would think he would be less distracted now that he doesnt have to worry about his marrriage. if it is anything like this years you just dont know. i am going to get a satellite so i can get the OLN channel. Hopefully cablevision where i live will get it by then but i doubt it.

I'm guessing he's not going to get too far with the E!/People Magazine fodder. Anybody who spends 5 or 6 hours a day bicycling, and has to be somewhere where they can reasonably do that, ain't enough fun to be around.

If you've seen the SC's "Steve McQueen" video, I don't see how you could not want to hang out with her, but most importantly we need to keep things in perspective.

For Christ's sake, Jan "Rave all night and crash my Mercedes into a bike rack" Ullrich was right there until the road got a little slippery. Jan "I can eat 40 bratwurst and drink a gallon of beer" Ullrich won the tour showing after showing up a little fat and out of shape.

Next year is going to be an epic tour regardless of whether Lance has a glass of wine and a fling or not. And if he's gonna have a fling...

Who says that's wine? Kind of hard to see for sure, what with the way he's holding it. I'll bet it's some super-energy drink and he's trying to make it LOOK like wine to fit in Also, we don't see him drinking it do we? I don't how many times I've taken a glass of wine, sipped it once, walked around for an hour and then inconspicuously set it down. On the other hand, if it were a beer in his hand, I'd be asking "what number is that?"

Believe it or not, pro riders are allowed the occasional glass of wine or beer during the off season. Riders during the TDF have even been known to have a glass of wine during dinner.

I don´t care what Armstrong does in his private life.
After the rumours about him and Sandra Bullock, I see now Shery Crow at his side. So what ?
The more time he spends with her, the less he will have to prepare himself for the TDF 2004.
Next year it will be definately very hard (if not impossible) for him to win the Tour once again - and I doubt it. He´s becoming older and lost some domestics, may even he will lose his sponsor.

So, I guess that next Tour will be Ullrichs´. If not next year, then Ullrich will never win the Tour again.
A decisive year next year, for both of them.

by the way, just for reasons of correctness:
When Ullrich crashed the bike rack he did drive a Porsche GT (in a proper style, of course) and no Mercedes-Benz.
But, for sure he also own´s a Mercedes...

After reading a bit more about this (and Sandra) if the rumors are true, isn't this pretty much just despicable on LA's part? I mean, the divorce isn't even final! Come on! If this rumors are true, LA would be well served to keep his kickstand in his pants and focus on the TdF. If I find out that he's really IS dating Sheryl, I may have to say "5 times is good enough" and support another rider

Kristen went through a lot with him and all the time taking care of the kids moving from country to country etc...

You don't find many women who will do this for years. I think he lost or perhaps threw out his greatest asset. It is one of the reasons I find it dificult to be a supporter. GO Jan!

CarlJStoneham - Just a bit judgmental don't you think??

Why should Lance be held to a higher standard of behavior than anyone else?? Isn't he entitled to be human just because he represents America's cycling community. He also represents how people can overcome increadable adversary in their lives (abandoned by his father, abused by his step-father and then Cancer!!!) to acheive their dreams (and in his case probably exceed them).

Lance is just doing what people do when a relationship fails - trying to regain stability and focus in his life. Most of us feel better if we have someone special who shows us that they care (and yest I believe Sheryl is capable of that). This is a normal human need. The law only says he can't get married until the divorce is final!! As I understand it, Lance and his wife are getting what is usuall called an uncontested divorce, where both parties are in agreement that they want to end the marraige.

How about supporting the RIDER for is acheivements as a RIDER and not judging him (and not supporting him)[QUOTE] for being human and having the same human needs we all have.
