I zero my powertap while still. It takes a good 15 seconds though before it will zero.

Thanks, that's good enough for me.

I know my quarq has to be done that way but I assumed the pt had to be done while moving.
It should always be done while still, with your feet off the pedals. What you're doing is telling the head unit: "The reading you're getting from the hub right now should be considered "zero" torque." If you are coasting, there is a negative torque on the hub from the freewheel. If you are parked with a foot clipped in, then the weight of that leg puts a torque on the hub. If you zero in either of these instances, you won't get the accuracy you're looking for.

WKO on mac:

Hopefully there will be no major issues with uploading from devices. So far everything works except for multi-file quadrant analysis.

grumpy - how are you doing that?
It looks like you aren't using parallels... but I thought there wasn't a mac version of wko?

I followed the instructions here

https://cyclingskills.blogspot.com/20...crossover.html

Although it is not necessary to install IE. As far as compatibility with later versions of Crossover, I cannot say, since I have version 8. I should send an email to the Codeweaver folks to ask them if version 10 works with WKO+.

Getting the SRM to talk to the computer is another issue. So far, the only way is to use the mac version of Device Agent, then open the file in WKO+. Same with the Garmin 500, although I can also use Garmin Training Center.

Is there any software that will overlay plots on a chart/graph? I've only used PowerAgent, the SRM Software, and Golden Cheetah.

On the velodrome I have done the same efforts repeatedly over time with different gears and pacing strategies and I'd like to see how a few of them compare on top of each other. I've done this in the past by exporting to .CSV, importing to excel, and creating charts, but this is labor intensive.

Thanks.

WKO 3 will do multi-file analyses. The same channels (power, HR, speed, cadence) are overlaid in different colors.

Thanks. Anything else?

Unfortunately, I think WKO+ and TrainingPeaks is overpriced for what I need from it. Actually, I think it's all overpriced in general.

How often do you guys zero your PT like that? I thought coasting was zeroing, so I don't think I have done a still zero in a while.

I zero it before every ride. It doesn't seem to need it after that though, the offset on my powertap is much more stable than my SRM

I zero it before every test, and any time the power just doesn't seem right. That's is pretty rare, but more frequent when it's hotter and the hub's storage and usage temps are so different.

I'm' sure I'm opening a massive can or worms but

Is there an agreed upon best method for testing your FTP indoors?

I do not have the luxury of a flatish 20 min ride with ou6t stop signs and lights so I think my best best is to test indoors and then see if it feels accurate outside

after I find my FTP I'll attempt the other power profiling tests.

No. The best indoor test for me is MAP. I can use that to set training zones, and estimate my FTP close enough to track training stress. For me, MAP is very sensitive and consistent, but it doesn't test FTP.

I'll give the 20min TT test a try and see where I end up.

not sure if I have enough experience with my pm to accurately pace the TT effort I don't want to start out too hard blow up and then finish it off at really low power.

I do know my LTHR so I might use that as a way to guide me initially but not rely on it.

I have a question for those who use golden cheetah and garmin connect. I noticed today that my average power in garmin is higher than in Golden Cheetah.

Today's ride was Garmin Connect avg watts = 184 Golden Cheetah avg watts = 154

Why the discrepancy?

I also just noticed that the normalized power/xPower is 183 in Golden Cheetah could this be the reason. Is Garmin Connnect's avg watts a normalized number?

i think one is average while you are in motion (GC) and the other is overall average(on Garmin)

Okay, I just averaged all the numbers in excel and found that with zeros it is 153.9 and without zeros it is 183.9, so I think I answered my own question. Thanks

Yeah, the first test is more of a learning experience. Do the test, set your zones, train, then re-test. You'll get better at it rapidly.

Should I be worried about past power numbers if I haven't zero'd in like 6 months? It appears to be about normal, my FTP and max are both within what I would consider normal for my form right now.

Just so I'm not confused, you spin the crank a few times and let the wheel spin off the ground for 10-15 secs? Or I have the bike next to me on the ground not doing anything and I go into the settings and zero it?

I don't believe the thing gets progressively further and further from zero. I think the auto-zero just hunts around for a real zero, so it goes high and low a little bit all the time. I'm sure this is discussed somewhere on the Wattage forum, but I haven't searched.

To zero it, I just come to a stop, put both feet on the ground, and zero it. I get it into torque mode while I'm approaching the stop, so I can get going two seconds after I stop. No crank rotations or anything.

Mine didn't play nice today. This was the first time I've ever seen it hiccup. I stood around then I stood some more waiting for it to zero. I then went through all the menus trying to figure out how to force it. The reading 11-ish when in torque mode when stopped and ~40 watts when coasting around 20 mph. Wierd. It finally decided to zero on the way back to the office. Maybe it's time for new batteries?

my Quarq and Garmin 705 took a long time to zero the other day... but I was at the beginning of a century ride and I was picking up other pm devices too

my Quarq is brand new but I think it got confused with the other pm devices around.
