ToC "Amateur" Solvang TT

Congrats to my teammate Gary Douville who took first in the amateur race with a time of 33:47

That would have put him 72nd, just ahead of Tom Boonen

Anybody want to guess what his average power was?

Gary, that is, not Boonen

I just saw the email... he only said "consistently above threshold". 31mph for the last 10K. Guess that 55T came in handy. I rode the course in the morning and was spinning pretty fast in my 53T. I only averaged 23mph for the 10K.

That's better than a friend of mine who's in the ToC racing for Jelly Belly. But, in his defense, he seems to be feeling kind of knackered right now.

You guys know that most pros DO NOT go all-out in TT's, right?

Managers only let the top GC guys and their better TT'ers go for it.
Most sprinters and domestiques will go 85-90%, instead of 100%.
Enough to make the time cut at least.

If Boonen keyed on the TT, he'd be up near the top.

Yes, and they have also done 5 stages in miserable conditions while Gary (and another teammate, Brian) sat on the couch watching. They would be the first to say this. But it is still am impressive feat. Gary is a very strong TT'er and did not train at all for this. He only found out about it a few days prior.
