Doping in the amateur peloton II

Any updates on this? I'd be more surprised to learn it's not going at all on than to find that it is (although I'm sure it's not too common and rather sporadic). What's the buzz on this on the Web/confessions of amateur dopers? Does the USCF do much dope testing, even at the nationals?

I confess, I've been drinking green tea every now and then.
I've also been taking EPO* to train.

Its cheap, available, and nobody ever gets tested except for nationals. This isnt a poor mans sport so I bet its being used a lot.

Maybe I'm being naive but I just don't see it in the Masters SCal peloton. I'm racing 45+ or 50+ and the guys that are killing it have resumes a mile long w multiple national and district championships to their names, and an occasional amateur world championship. I also train with a few of the top guys and know them and they ride clean. Can't speak for the younger elite types but in Masters racing scene her locally I just don't see it.

There's a lot of dope in the collegiate peloton, but I don't think it's the kind you're referring to.

You'd think if there was much going on, you'd at least hear rumors. But nope, nada, no accusations, not even here in TX where Mexico's pharmacias are just a weekend trip away.

I bet there's quite a bit of funny business going on in the more competitive areas of the country. Texas, New York, CA, etc would all be good bets. Hell, people take 'roids for cosmetic purposes, you think they aren't going to do it for competitive ones? I don't care if it's CAT 1,2,3 or just for bragging rights at the weekend Hammerfest. Some guys just can't help themselves.

For $400 and 2 minutes with Google you can get the proper steroid/hormonal stack for cyclist, triathletes and marathoners delivered to your door. You can bet your ass that it'll make a big difference in your performance. Have I done it? No. Did I check it out just to see how tough it was to find? Yes. Easy-peasy-japanesy....

You're kidding yourself if you think all your competitors are clean, but you'll drive yourself nuts if you worry about it.

Before cycling, I ran. In the late 90's I went into GNC to ask about something to make me run better. They gave me 'Awesome Orange' or something with a name kinda like that. It was basically an ephendrine/caffeine mix. My loop that I ran by myself (i.e. no competition at all) was around 4 miles. Doing back to back tests, taking a dose of that drink was worth about a mile a minute. I did the test probably 10 times and it repeated over and over. It was unbelieveable. I felt like I was running with someone else's lungs.

Of course, then people started having heart attacks with that mix, so I put the ki-bosh on it. The last time I saw the carton of that stuff was during a move and it was still 1/2 full. I guess I threw it out, because I haven't seen it in forever.

I dose up with ibuprofen before every ride. Just one tablet. Don't want the drug test to false positive me on anything.

how much would epo really help for crits? It seems like it's a climbers/TT drug and unless you're in a breakaway It doesn't seem like sprinters would go for it.
