I wonder why the men's TT type chart rises consistently to the right (5 sec is lowest, 1 min is higher, etc) while the women's TT type chart has the 1 min value being the highest and the FTP value the next highest. Some of the other charts show a similar trend where the 1 min is higher than the equivalent male chart.
I'm not sure that extrapolating the 5 sec and 1 min values is going to be anywhere close to accurate. (I think it's ok to extrapolate FTP based on a 20 min effort however). Before you pigeon-hole yourself, do some real serious 5 sec and 1 min efforts, preferably in a race or group ride where you really go all out.
If I remember right, you're pretty new to racing. I don't think that it is a good idea for a new racer to decide "oh, I'm a climber" or whatever right away. It might be what you are best at now, but if you worked on your other skills you might be good at them too. The danger of deciding that you are a certain type is that you can start training to your strengths and ignoring your weaknesses, and making excuses when you don't do well in a race because one of your weaknesses was, well, weak. I'm definately guilty of that, though not so much when I started racing... I tried everything then.

Genetics have failed me
My 5" power is definitely rising faster than my FTP even so I mostly ride tempo trying to get my FTP up. I know that I'm definitely not a climber with my weight.

Seems like SST seems to be the best way to go to raise FTP.

i think i lost all my power data. wait, i don't have a power meter. my only success came from a sprint, but i doubt that means anything.

I am a natural sprinter. My limiter is power at threshold, which I am working on in training.

so far my specialty has been DNF when I get more data (finish a race) I'll have a better idea.

Hard to say since I'm not really trained that well yet, but so far it looks like I lean toward sprinter. With my morphology, I don't think I'll ever be a TT'er.

My chart is wacky. I think I don't have enough real test data in the 1 minute area, since I am off the chart low on that one. My one hour power puts me at mid cat 4. My five second power is slightly lower, but still mid cat 4.
but here's the weird part...my 5 minute power apparently is mid cat 3. So the chart is a bizarre zigzag pattern. I voted for all-rounder because my one hour and five second power are somewhat even.
I don't really think it would be fair to judge anything until my initial three years of racing are completed though, and I have two to go.

She had it in her head that she should be a sprinter but it wasn't really based on anything other than a romantic notion of sprinting and that in a swim meet she once beat another girl in a short event but lost to the same girl in a longer event. We discussed it a bit last night (I guess she posted this after I fell asleep ) and it made sense that she would be more skewed toward endurance since her whole family has been in endurance sports, and she doesn't actually think doing an Ironman is crazy...
We will do some testing soon, I wanted her to ride around with the thing for a bit to get a feel for things before jumping right in.
Btw, this was the 5s power:
Peak 5s (371 watts):
Duration: 0:05
Distance: 100 ft
Elevation Gain: 3 ft
Elevation Loss: 1 ft
Grade: 1.3 % (1 ft)
Min Max Avg
Power: 330 403 371 watts

Cadence: 59 61 60 rpm
Speed: 13.1 14.7 13.7 mph
Altitude: 116 118 117 ft
Crank Torque: 457 577 525 lb-in
And for the whole ride
Entire workout (103 watts):
Duration: 2:56:22 (4:07:24)
Work: 1078 kJ
TSS: 196 (intensity factor 0.821)
Norm Power: 123
VI: 1.2
Pw:HR: 2.64%
Distance: 38.128 mi
Elevation Gain: 4504 ft
Elevation Loss: 4489 ft
Grade: 0.0 % (15 ft)
Min Max Avg

Altitude: -46 537 140 ft
Crank Torque: 0 1781 175 lb-in
And we rode together, this was mine. There is some discrepancy in the time due to the way we both have our pauses set. Oh yeah, we stopped for lunch in the middle. She asked me what my power was a lot, and I heard a lot of "that's not fair!"
Entire workout (91 watts):

I have only been racing, as a cyclist, for 2 years so I'm hesitant to say forsure; however, I believe my power profile suits the time trial profile. I have a relatively high threshold with a relatively weak sprint. On the other hand, I crack too quickly after passing my threshold. I'm trying to improve my after threshold power by doing our local crit series. At the same time, I've never been a sprinter in other sports. As a hockey player, I had to rely on skill rather than speed. As a runner, I was far better running distances further than 5k. As a duathlete, I obviously spent alot of time working on threshold power. Thus, it make sense that my threshold is higher relative to my sprint.

What power meter does Mrs. umd have? PowerTap or extra Quarq?
Or your Quarq swapped over for the time being?

It could be I'm more of an all arounder, but I answered sprinter since my best race placings have come from bunch sprints. No power meter.

I don't except what I am because if I did, I'd be 300 lbs, eating a full pizza for a snack, and not doing ****. Based upon my eating habits, I should be a huge fatty. Instead I try and motivate myself to get out and ride, try and stay ~155lbs, and do pretty well at it.

umd and I were going up a 2% rise at a good speed towards the end of our ride. I told him he should look at his power. He said "it's 180, why?". I just give him an evil look. If he's doing 180, what does he think I'm doing! He's a little dense sometimes.
