tadej valjavek is a pretty good rider. on gc, he is higher than anyone from:

aqua and sapone
barloworld
bouygues telecom
fuji servetto
garmin
isd
katusha
lampre
lotto
milram
quickstep
saxo bank
xocoebo galicia

plus top 10 in the tour last year. the efimkin brothers also look promising. i would much rather have the broadcast talking about these guys than sweeping back into the peloton to get the 3,895th shot of lance.

sure, valjavek is a good rider and higher on GC than all those teams you listed (I didnt verify, I trust your facts) but ISD, Barloworld, and bbox have put themselves front and center the entire race. Whereas AG2R has been a no show.

Also, do all you sprinter haters hate on Menchov and Di Luca now after yesterdays stage? You know, where szmyd lead for about 25K then Basso the rest while menchov and di luca came by in the last 300M to punk him for the stage win?

lastly, is there a climber gregario who could be in a better spot that szmyd vs. last year? 2007/2008, spent entire gt life waiting on cunego, now he's shepherding around basso. that's a move from the outhouse to the penthouse folks!

Did LA get dropped big on the climbs and only finish down a minute because the last 40K were downhill?

Just to keep things in perspective he's only down 4:19 so far and the next big thing Tom Danielson (you knew I was gonna say something) is 29:02 back already. Are they riding for Wiggins?

I knew boasson hagen would win the sprint against those guys in the break, but daaamn, it looked like he didn't even break a sweat doing it. he just stood up a few times and was 5 bike lengths ahead.

Paul Sherwen and Bob Roll better hope he never retires because when he does, one, or both of them, are out of a job.

Hunter gave away the win today ... starting at 2:31:00 (hours:minutes:seconds). Dude didn't start his sprint until 100m ... maybe he knew he was gonna get beat .. maybe he was gassed.

He's also a very funny interview, and like you said - he's going to be doing commentary in the near future.

He's hysterical, loves to talk, is pretty articulate for a lifelong jock, and he gives you insight into what the riders are thinking. Roll and Sherwen are checked out, using the same trite phrases over and over again.

Do these guys ever listen to their broadcasts? Do they EVER talk to any of the riders other than Hincapie? They are tired at best, incredibly boring at worst. Horner would be a breath of fresh air.

Hell, Sean Kelly on Eurosport (doing the Giro color commentary) has more to offer than Roll and Sherwen combined, and he's a low talker/mumbler who sounds like he's in pain when he speaks.

Hunter was out of gas, he simply did not have the legs at the finish.
