True, it may be biased but every manufacturer has to claim their product is good, this article just compares the quarq, ptap, and ibike.... it has graphs and data that was most likely not manipulated to try to trick people into buying a fake power meter.

...... please.

For myself, with a 1' power over 800W, I don't think I'd have ever known to try the kilo attack if I had an iBike instead of a PowerTap.

Once I learned the all-out from the beginning (sprint-start) technique for 1' intervals and kilo attacks, my average power for the 1' duration went up dramatically. I just don't think the iBike would have captured that first 4 seconds at 1600-1400W.

The CdA and Crr can be altered, after the fact, to match the data given by either the Powertap or the CinQo. The reviewer clearly stated that the iBike was calibrated to the CinQo. What he does not show is coast-down calibration vs the Powertap and CinQo.

All his review proves is the consistency, not the accuracy. Again, consistency is the important feature in a training tool.

More skiing today. Probably could ride today but the skiing yesterday was so fun!

I'm not freaking out about not riding, I'm not freaking out about not riding, I'm not freaking out about not riding... U23 nats isn't until June, U23 nats isn't until June, U23 nats isn't until June, U23 nats isn't until June...

Really though these are courses on a computer trainer. So when they are done, they are done. Wish I could put in minutes instead of miles. Cest la vie.

bruitally cold and wet and slick this morning.

my rear derailleur cabling got so jammed/muddy/frozen that i was stuck in my 11 in the back the whole way. which made for a nice unplanned strength workout, except for the big hill where i literally had to reach down and pull tension on the RD cable from below the downtube to downshift so i could keep moving on the snowpack.

2 good solid hours on the trainer on Saturday most of which was virtual hill climbing. First time I actually felt relatively decent after a workout in excess of an hour in the last several weeks. Hopefully the trend continues. Off Sunday & Monday. Not off Tuesday.

My daughter's basketball season is concluding next Saturday so hopefully the weather will start cooperating after that so I can start getting out on Saturday mornings for some longer rides again.

Yeah but I always ignore them.

I agree the article is better than nothing but you can find papers published in peer reviewed journals comparing various power meters and ergometers. You don’t have to trust the manufactures, except for the ibike which nobody publishes about. Heck even the polar power estimator was published about… with them concluding “These characteristics make S710 a useful device for recreational cyclists but not for elite cyclists or scientists who require a greater accuracy and validity.” Same could probably be said about the ibike.

We're the opposite. T-ball starts on the last Saturday in March so making the group ride is looking hit or miss.

That's fine but if you continue to post your numbers you will continue to get people pointing out that they don't make any sense. Especially take anything under several minutes with a huge grain of salt and don't even bother looking at max values.

Ya. Wouldn't miss the games for the world. But it will be a bit easier to get more than 5-6 hours a week in with 3-4 hour rides on Saturday . Kind of a delayed base I guess. First race isn't until early May so I still have some time. At least I haven't been totally sitting on my arse!

Understood, well then to satisfy the curiosity of some people, here is the race data from the last road race I did 2 weeks ago: garmin site link

This is with the iBike Sport, Garmin 500, properly calibrated.

I looked at your data in WKO and whatever you are using to get your numbers is not including zeros in the average. I have more info in the race report thread.

2 hours z2 ride with 7 sprints done for form and cadence. Low in drops, strong core, head up just enough.
Nothing crazy on the wattage front, but better. Better is the key.

Then to finish the ride I did a couple of AWC-hill efforts because:
1. I want to train for a strong finishing effort in races.
2. I may not get to train as hard as I'd like tomorrow
3. I am stupid and cant stick to a plan
4. It was getting dark and I couldnt do any more z2 withough getting killed

90" @ 503
120" @ 455

nada special, but enough to start feeling what these wattages feel like.

So, lots of new stuff for the old body to figure out and a beautiful day on the bike.

Re motivated to not eat like a slob for a bit, too.

Last week was supposed to peak my first build block.. work sucked all my time away. So with 6 hrs on the books for last week I'm calling that a rest week. Now I'll start up again with ~10 hrs this week. I'm going to race Lago Vista Saturday and Sunday, and one day I'm eager to actually race the 4's and the 4/5's.

Tonight I'm going to go out and do a 2x20' effort. total ride will be about 2 hrs.

Wow, who knew that sunshine and mid 40s could feel good; it's all relative. Rode outside without tights -- knee warmers would have been nice, but, it was tolerable on the legs. Did my bread and butter roller route and started to feel looser and stronger out of the saddle while climbing. I wasn't looking to kill it, but, I did push it a bit, particularly on the ups.
