I've got 6x5'x1' scheduled today but I'm stuck working...I hope I can get them in before dark.

so how do I compensate for an 8lb backpack when doing intervals at 105%? (its a half serious question)

...man I've got some tension to work out.

thats a big backpack.

my commute backpack is a tiny camelbak without the bladder.

i take in clothes on my recovery days, and ride my cross commuter w panniers those days

training days the only thing in my bag is lunch and snacks (only on the way in) wallet, keys, sunscreen, multitool, small pump, and mini first aid kit.

105% of FTP? I think I'd just ride. You probably won't be doing any significant swaying, so just ride your program.

yeah, but I'm really not concerned about balance, I'm thinking more how it would skew my target watts.

...yeah, I'm a teacher. book here, clothes there, plus stuff.

Why would it skew your target watts? You don't become stronger or weaker just because you are carrying more weight. Your power meter doesn't care how much weight you are carrying or how fast you are going. Unless you have an iBike I guess, then you would obviously need to recalibrate for the extra weight and drag.

My stuffed Timbuk2 doesn't bother me untill I do all-out sprints. Maybe that's why I can't break 1200 watts on a commute...

I'm no scientists or engineer, but I'd suspect that merely having more weight attached to your body will increase your power outputs. Something to do with using "body-weight" as leverage on the pedals - especially in the high zones.

obviously you don't know about cns training. bruce lee would train wearing 3 backpacks, and look how awesome he is.

I could see wearing more weight allowing more force to be applied to the pedals, at least when standing. I have to think about that one...

The thing is that looking at my power files, the only time I am ever anywhere near "bodyweight" torque is standing starts from llights. Just riding around, even when overgeared mashing up a climb, there is only maybe 1/3 of my bodyweight in force on the pedals.

Even though I had fried legs I showed up for the first hammer ride of the season intending to sit in. The consensus at the start was to try and complete the normal Thursday route which would have put me on the opposite side of town as the sun was going down. Instead I rode with the group to the halfway point and then took the direct route back to town towing a teammate behind me the whole way.

With fried legs I was fine as long as I was aerobic. I even went to the back and opened up gaps to fine tune my workload.

On the other hand my anaerobic wasn't there. That is to say that my "snap" has snapped.

Now for a rest day.

Got it the winning break at Orr Rd tonight. ~40 minutes at 298 watts. The 5 man break was established within 5 minutes of the start.
I cramped so bad in my legs and lungs that I thought I was going to collapse.

In the end, however, I let a gap go between me and the last guy. I couldn't close it to contest for the sprint. So I sat up and tried not to puke.

It. Was. Awesome.

You stayed out front, right Sub? Even if you didn't, nice work!

I just got back from 3 hours completely unstructured. Went fast sometimes, went slow sometimes. Visited my girlfriend at work and picked up my new shoes at the end of the ride. I wasn't really supposed to ride today, because I have a 5 day block coming up, but it was over 60˚ and sunny... had to work on the tan lines!

Almost. But since we don't race for anything except bragging rights, I just coasted to the end at the last corner.
The main field was breathing down our necks and almost caught us. So ... they did catch me at that corner. I was extremely satisfied with the results. Two of the guys I was in the break with are N.C.'s fastest masters.

I tried the WRI(tm) today (if that's what the 1125211 is). My legs burned, lungs ached, heart pounded away, I hated every minute and realized that I should've pushed harder... they were exactly what I needed. Finished out with some Z2/3 work to top off 1100 kJ.

Session was:
500W
515W
400W
311W (FTP is set to 310 ATM)
353W
408W
426W

6x5+1 zci's.

On the road, with power, properly calibrated, and averaging zero's.

Some 5-minute intervals up an 8% grade today. Like The Book said I went until I couldn't hold 50 rpms anymore.

Not too cold, light rain, perfect day for training.

this was technically a race but it was pretty informal and it felt more like a training effort so i'm gonna post it in training status vs race report

tonight was the first night of the new local tuesday night TT series. course is a monster. foothills climb with 4 major efforts and no flats. they broke it up into aero and mass start legal categories, but beyond that it was open, no cat handicaps.

i (and everyone else in fort collins) know the route well but i cant say i've ever done it at TT pace before. it was pretty grueling, but fun, as the weather was gorgeous. good folks, well organized, a lot of expensive-ass TT bikes in the aero division.

something went screwy w my RD with a couple hundred yard to go.... a bunch of slack got in the line somehow and i was skipping all over the place when i tried to shift, so i probably lost like 20 seconds in that last bit, and otherwise, since its a 5 week series, and i'm really using it for training to getto know people, i was a little conservative, but still feel proud of my effort. looking forward to the rest of the series.

no results posted yet, 20some people started. pretty wide variety of cat 1s down to 12 year olds. sweet
