Ze, got any ideas who's going to show up at Nats? How are you planning on doing? I think Paul Mach (Bissell) is still enrolled at UC Davis

I'm planning on winning
Mach is at Gila now, no idea if he'll be there. Driscoll is still in school too.
Honestly, looking for a top 10 in the RR and a break in the crit... neither of the courses suit me this year.

Just finished three days off. I have a three day block starting tonight, hopefully 500+TSS (another comeback high) before I head to Ft. Mac on Sunday.

Easy week this week. Went out yesterday for some intense (but not as many as usual) intervals as prescribed in the Time Crunched plan. Really wasn't feeling it. The over/unders later in the workout felt ok. Power wasn't far off (actually better on the over/unders than last week) but the 2 minute Peak & Fade power intervals really hurt. Was supposed to do 4 and bagged the last one as I got a side ache. Also picked up some lower back pain/stiffness. Resting & stretching today. Easy 60-75 minute ride tomorrow & first two races of the season this weekend.
This is my "peak" week on the Time Crunched plan. There are 3 weeks after this to try to maintain the peak as best as possible. Considering how I'm feeling and that I don't have another race scheduled until 5/26, I may take a week off and start the 6 week maintenance period early to let the back heal up and get some more rest.
Oh yeah. Both Saturday and Sunday races have 70% chance of thunderstorms. Awesome!

dang i gained 2 pounds this week.
thats what i get for taking full two days off and skipping 2 commutes
i was actually expecting it, so not concerned. ive lost 20 pounds since the holidays, and figured now that i'm peaking and getting ready for a couple of important events better to err on the side of getting enough calories.

You're all wrong...well kinda...i have the BH now, i will not ride a Fuji again because Tom Roth is a DEE BAG. I do like the SST's but i got a smoking deal on a CAAD9...less than 400 for the frame with the BB30. I also bought a Soul Faith to build up...so...almost no bikes to 3 in about 1 week.

I would have been as surprised to see you buy a Fuji as you'd be to see me buy a Madone, given your history there.

Question...
I picked up a cold a couple weeks ago+. Rested a bit (missed two workouts) and then got back on it. However, the last couple of weeks I've just not felt 100%. Tired, slightly headachy and now my lower back is aching. Maybe a little irritable.
So, I am doing the Time Crunched Cyclist plan and working out about 6 hours a week average. A typical week is 75 minutes on Monday & Wednesday with hard VO2 level intervals (usually about 9 2 minute (2 on 2 off) intervals in sets with breaks between sets. Friday is typically 75 minute Over/Under intervals (say 3x12 high end SST). The rest of the time is spent at endurance & tempo and sometimes higher (like hills). Saturday is usually a 2-3 hour ride probably in the Temp - SST range (if by myself I'm really not doing a lot of coasting). I also have been seeming to pick up colds easier than usual as some of you have recognized.
So is it even possible to hit overtrained status on only 6 hours a week? After I race this weekend I don't have another one scheduled until 5/26. I'm seriously thinking of taking a week (or most of one) off the bike and start the 6 week maintenance period early. Or should I just try to scrimp together a little more sleep, eat better and just HTFU for another 3 weeks and try to hold onto the peak a little longer? I just want to wake up in the morning and feel refreshed again. I love that feeling. And miss it!

BT WO. hurt my soul today. how?... like this:
30' WU with a single 10" effort. Earned CP5" and 10" records @ 1500 and 1388.
then did 5x5x1 @ 394,394,394,394 and 400w. I couldnt bring myself to do the 6th interval. they hert too badly and I was FUBAR. I hate you ZEcanon. hate.
then after my soul recoverd a bit, I did this:
CP24":
Duration: 0:24
Work: 23 kJ
TSS: 3.3 (intensity factor 2.216)
Norm Power: n/a
VI: n/a
Pw:HR: n/a
Pa:HR: n/a
Distance: 0.199 mi
Min Max Avg
Power: 784 1258 1002 watts
Cadence: 38 122 104 rpm
Speed: 21.6 33.8 30.0 mph
short but very hurty. I better be faster now.

Went out for a ride with a little tempo to get the blood boiling (3 to 5 miles stretches on the hoods, into the slight breeze at 21 to 22 mph), but not so much that it will be felt in the morning. Just around 40 miles total. It feels good.
Tomorrow is the last shake out ride on the TT bike with one short TT level effort to get the legs thinking about the 40 km ride on Saturday morning. I hope and pray that I don't flat because I will have to glue up a used tubular tomorrow night and I really don't want to be doing that. I do have just enough fresh glue to do one. A double flat going through some redneck's idea that "the bike lane is the glass recycling center for my Natty Lite bottle" would cause me great pain and a couple of frantic phone calls.

Upped the 5' PR I set on Tuesday by 10 watts tonight. Having a rabbit to chase is a good thing. And the irony is my 6' time is 10 watts higher than my new 5' time.
Good two hours. The IF was at 1.06 so I bumped up my FTP. Progress. And two guys said I looked skinnier. Still fat, but skinnier.

killed. it.
2:50, 180 TSS -- started off with a 12 minutes warmup into a 20' interval. Not a full on test, per se, but close enough. 20' @306W, previous best was 295W. So, that's fun.
THEN, less than 3 minutes later, FINALLY FINALLY FINALLY hit a 1300W peak in my sprint, 5"@1267W = 16.43 W/kg and that's a new record as well.
The next 2 hrs were nice, although it was a bit chilly and now I'm tired. this is also going to be my biggest month ever (that's not saying much, I've only been keeping records since December)

2:24 w/ a lot of 3-5' short punchy hills. No structured intervals but a fun and challenging ride nonetheless. Concentrated on spinning up the climbs and powering over the top (one of the toughest areas for me in races). I was pretty burnt by about 1:45. These are the types of rides I miss.
