Right after a workout, and to supplement meals with if you don't have good sources of lean protein around. I wouldn't take it before a workout, but I don't see the harm in having it for breakfast on an offday. Sometimes I take a little baggy with me if I'm leaving my hermit shell for half a day or more. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised with the nice boost in recovery. You might stay at the same weight for awhile however as you trade fat for muscle.
EDIT: skip the body fortress stuff you find in target/wal-mart. The last stuff I used was by EAS from a wholesale store which was only $10 more for 5lbs. Probably going to try this next.

Thanks for the source!
I think I'm going to order the 5 pounder chocolate one. Bleh, the shipping is expensive, but it's still cheaper than the GNC Stuff with the gold card.
How much of this stuff do you go through in a month?

5lbs. lasts me a good while, in base maybe 3 months and in summer around 2? I try not to use it all the time since you need to vary your intake to avoid food allergies (if it does happen just lay off for a week or two); common signs are indigestion or a physically bloated stomach. Plus it doesn't have the same nutrients as real food. I usually take 25-30g at a time, or 50g after a race effort. Anything more in a single meal will pass right through which is another incentive to eat 5+ times a day.

Bought one of the scale doohickeys yesterday and checked my weight today. This is probably under what it should be because I didn't eat as much as I should have after my race since I was having a really bad stomach ache...
In any event.
Weight was 148 and BF% was just a hair over 15.
I'm guessing my weight is really around 150.
Looks like the 145 goal in 6 weeks is doable.

Hm. I guess the scale at home is wrong, because this one seems pretty consistent.
I'm at like 147 in the mornings, so 144-145ish is pretty reasonable a goal. Maybe even a bit less.
I guess it's not the weight that's holding me back in the W/Kg dept huh...

I've been doing the caloriecount.com thing for a week now and I really like it. I haven't lost any weight to speak of, but I'm very optimistic. Nothing is off limits, but having all the information up to date of everything you've eaten gives you a lot of control.

The quickest way to lose weight, guaranteed, is to pick up a nice parasite.
I managed to drink some tainted water last Wednesday, which was probably tainted with giardia or something, and it put me into a four day tailspin which included vomiting, diarrhea, high fever, shakes, and sweats. I even spent a night in the ER getting an IV bag pumped into my arm.
By the time I came through it I was 7 pounds lighter. According to my tanita, it's not water weight either.
Last night I went out and did hill repeats. I was able to hit my normal power numbers, but I was a little fatigued and did one less repeat than the previous week. My next race is September 5th, I suspect I'll be able to be fully recovered and back up to 100% health, hopefully the weight will stay off.

And the best way to gain it back is if your bosses are paying for your food all week and you're doing a move so you can't ride.
I was down under 146 last week. Today morning, the scale read 151. Sh!!!TTTT...
Anyway, I think my road season is over anyway, so I can just start losing weight for next season without worrying about losing power or whatever.

Effective weight loss, but I can't recommend the method.

Well, I eat what I want but I'm not trying to lose weight. Typically I eat extremely low fat and then allow myself leniency on Sunday nights after racing. I don't think I ever get more than 5 pounds over my best race weight. Though this winter I am going to explore getting five pounds lighter for next year.
I'm with you on this 100%. I try to manage my weight during the winter to 5lbs..losing that is pretty easy. I eat pretty healthy regardless due to my health issues but racing and training require (for me at least) a pretty diligent diet. Due to the last few months and all that I've gone through I need to drop 5lbs and about 4%bf before October. This will be tough as I'm trying to peak for our State RR but the course has some big climbs (for central TX) and I'm going to b Ex's domestique for this race..
