In Missouri, I was 10 cars out in front. Fun, but nothing like this one.

I always thought that it was the person in charge of selecting the podium girls. This job looks pretty good, too.

Wow. That's awesome. I'm so jealous. Nice job on the bike handling by the moto too. See him dive into the grass at 3 minutes when he gets squeezed? Can't be easy handling a bike in the mud with a guy on the back.

Holy carp! Do the motos "interact" with the peleton like that all of the time? It's a wonder we don't see more moto/bicycle crashes.

Jon constantly looks for decent scenery to shoot. When he sees something he likes, they stop and wait for the riders to come by. Then they zoom through the field again.
Each time they approach the back of the pack, they need permission from Comm One to pass, but it's never more than a quick wave. They may ask motos not to do that during feeding because that's when team cars are trying to get to their riders and will use both lanes.
At Missouri, we had four or five camera motos like tis one, plus two or three of the video motos.
The best job is NOT selecting the podium girls. The best job is driving Comm One (immediately behind) or Comm Two (immediately in front of the peloton). Those guys see everything.

You'd be surprised how much of a pain in the royal ass podium girl's can be, I had that displeasure two years ago at the Tour Of Pennsylvania. Wanted to stab myself in the eyes. Good looks only get you so far.

I always thought Bicycling Magazine product testing was the best job.

Think of all the other jobs you'd have to work to make up for being a journalist.

The motos zoom through the field several times per stage.

This video is from Comm 4 in the 2006 AToC.
Comm 4 usually stays out of the mix, except when things bust apart on the climbs.
The photog at the end of the clip is VN's Casey Gibson.

But I bet getting to select them is quite a different experience than working with/for them.
