I'm thinking of anything from caffeine to bicarb. Things which aren't banned, but wouldn't be in your dinner if you didn't think they'd make you more likely to win. Ordinary foods like meat, bread, veggies etc not included. Synthetic or isolated substances definitely included.

Does whoever voted "bread and water" really not even use a carbohydrate drink? Also interested that this has had 40 views but only 8 votes.

Many carbohydrate drinks contain no maltodextrin, caffeine, or amino acids. Do electrolytes count as a "mineral supplement"? I was thinking that, being grouped with multivitamin, would tend to be an extra iron, calcium, etc. supplement.

Maybe I misinterpreted. I never "take" caffeine (like some kind of supplement? Anyone remember APC tablets? Aspirin, P-something - Phenacitin?, and Caffeine?) But I doubt if I've ever taken a ride without having a cup of coffee first, because I start every morning with a cup of coffee. Yum.
On tour I always bring a coffee funnel and some good coffee. Bike touring may be a Spartan existence, but I have my limits!

Didn't even know that a scary parasite fungus was a performance enhancer, but that goes under herbal stuff.

I voted nothing. I usually only drink water and bring food with me. Rarely I have "sports" drinks. On the bike i eat a lot of Clifs products (bars, shots, blocks, etc.) along with real food like bananas, potatoes, and sandwhiches. I dont take any specific pills or vitamins.

I use creatine, but typically only a few times a year, and only for 2-3 weeks at a time.

a sports nutritionist i see at yoga tells me real food is the best for you, but if your regular diet is lacking a multivitamin cant help. Whey protien is also really good for recovery. Also she says that a fish oil pill 3-4 days a week can help your digestive system a bunch, that is more geared towards runners/triathletes, but it cant really hurt. It also has other benefits

They are a banned substance, which is why they aren't on the poll.
Also I'd like to know, of those who responded "nothing", how many hold a racing licence.

This is kind of an interesting study funded by the California raisin producers and is one of the reasons I carry raisins with me on rides.
