I meant herbie hacock (the pianist on cornbread) but i'm game w hank mobley too

Good to see other jazz fans out there. My favorite pieces of music are generally jazz tunes. On the flip side there is much cheesy jazz music without substance that truly is meant to be elevator/lobby music that doesn't require listening. I hate that ****.

I enjoy listening to pop music/pop rap (top 40's), classic rock or blues w friends, vintage country music, newer alt rock, impressionist/romantic piano composers (Debussy, Chopin).
Lately i've been on a cheesy 70's/80's disco and pop kick. Like the kinda stuff they play on the old school station at 5pm after work...

Oh, I know. Just got me thinking of Hank cause he's on that record. I'm mostly a small combo guy myself 1949-1969 when it comes to jazz. I love Debussy. IMO, he's really the father of modern jazz or at least the tonality/stacked chord structures that were used later in the 60's & beyond.

I dig that stuff to, although I like a alot of weirdo fusion stuff ala return to forever, weather report... The In a Silent Way Recordings (immediately pre-*****es brew) are my favorite recordings. Recognize my avatar?

You into Ahmad Jamal? I've been gettin' real down w him lately (im a pianist too).
He's a heavy hitter and he doesn't even play a whole lot.
totally revolutionary if you consider the time period during which he was making music (bebop).

u play?

I think they have a song called 'the sun' which is really good as well.

Do you know the books? They're more experimental, but really really good.

I think I'm going to try to teach myself the sax part to take five on guitar. Lets see how it goes.

Note: I am terrible at guitar so this should be interesting.
