Just saw Epica (again) and Lacuna Coil (for the first time) at UC Theatre. Awesome live. Also UC Theatre had soooo much better sound than the stupid Regency! Show ended and I made the last train home... just barely.

I finally listened to Love, the George Martin remix-mashup album for the Cirque de Soleil show. I've been a Beatles fan since I was a kid but I've been avoiding Love because it just seemed so cheesy. Well, it's worse than cheesy, it's downright awful.
It's worse than that terrible Sgt. Pepper movie with the Bee Gees. That at least had Earth Wind and Fire's cover of Got To Get You Into My Life, which in my opinion is one of the few Beatles covers that matches or surpasses the original.
This sounds like it was made by someone who had a passing familiarity with the Beatles' catalog but who'd never heard a mashup and had no idea how it's supposed to work. "Oh these two songs have same meter and tempo, let's just jam those together, that's fun. And George's stuff is all Indian-y, so we better lay those on top of each other, maximize the sitar. Ringo gets a song, that's tradition, but he's the funny one so let's put some wacky sound effects in it."
Holy crap. And then I read that it was George Martin and his son and they had access to the entire catalog, demos and outtakes, the entire lot. It was awful. It actually made me angry the more I listened to it.

It was fabulous. Keb' Mo' played one mini-solo that sounded just like Duane Allman. I didn't expect that. It was a pleasant surprise.

He had an unmistakable, authoritative tone. He may be the easiest for me to identify when listening to jazz on the radio or streaming online.

Had spotify on nothing but The Hip that last couple of days. Why do the deaths of people we've never met affect us so much sometimes? It feels like a long lost old friend died, sucks.

I'm currently digging this track from a (current) pianist. It's very cerebral and pervasive in my mind. Kinda more like a classical rondo in a sense with a repeating motif/melody and continuous flow in between.

I miss the Celtics of a few years back, Rondo, Allen, Pierce, Garnett... What a great team!

This one is a little more sane... and a neat Hancock/Radiohead mashup. Plus, that drummer!
