Do you know anyone in the Tour of California?

I was just thinking about the Tour of California, and how most of us probably know local pros on various teams, through training or racing (especially for you cat 1/2 guys). Looking through the list, I know one of the riders for Team Type 1. I also know a rider on Bissell that appears not to have made the squad.

I just think it's kind of neat and makes watching the race a little more personal. So what about you guys? Who do you know, and any good stories about riding/racing with them?

I know a kid who was a "maybe" from Kelly Benefit. He didn't get the call. They are using him for crits back east instead.

I've "raced against" quite a few of them but to be more accurate I was in the same race as them cause they are on another level and Alex Candalario(KBS) is a local.

Raced with probably 1/3 of the field, at least. Personally, I know probably a dozen or so.

It will be funny when Ze himself is in it. Even though I don't "know" you, it will still be kind of neat.

Rode with Ben Jacques-Maynes a bit when I lived in Santa Cruz. I remember one time he showed up to the Saturday morning group ride on his TT bike and completely shattered the field on the long flat section into Watsonville. Good times.

that makes two of us

should be interesting

ive raced against many of the Bissel team and done local rides with there sprinter Holloway...same as jrennie though no denying they are at a whole different level...i consider myself a spectator having 360 degree front row seats

On sun at my teams RR we had Lucas Euser using our race as a tune up for the ToC. Jackson Stewart (BMC) and Scott Zwizanski (Kelly) were also there

yes, several. But I work for a UCI Conti team.

And it's Chad Hartley. He's a good guy.

I know a few.

Unfortunately, someone once told me "Never be a name dropper". I think it was Bob Hope that told me that! Doh!

Wanna bet there's gonna be a pic of Mikey running up a hill in a speedo somewhere with ZECANON painted on his chest?

I've riden with Aldo Ino Ilesic of Team Type 1 last year. He lives (ed) around here and knows one of my friends. He came over one Sunday and we all rode together for a while. We even sprinted for a City Limit sign. Guess who won?
