Time trialists running clinchers: what's your preferred race-day tire/tube combo?
I'm running conti gp 4000s tires for no other reason than they roll nicely and are reliable. Forte inner tubes.
Curious whether others have upgraded to any tire/tube combination that has delivered noticeable gains (performance or comfort) on time trial race day.
Thanks

I've seen positive comments re Bontrager's TT clincher over at Slowtwitch, but have not tried them myself.

I'm sure latex is da lovely, but the only flats I've had in 5 yrs have been on latex tubes.

Any of them, TTs aren't really my thing..
But fwiw I use gp4000s or conti supersonics w/ cont "race lite" tubes, not sure if they're latex.
I need to work on aero before my tire will make a huge difference.

They are much more resistant to pinch flats that butyl tubes. You just need to doubly careful that your rim bed is in good shape and don't pinch them during installation. I use them all the time.

This. Personally I use Vittoria Corsa's for tubulars (just glued a new 320 tpi to a disc last night) and Open Corsa's with latex tubes if I'm using a clincher. I'd never bother to glue a tubular with a butyl tube in it to a race wheel.

Bontrager Race X Lite Pro 23 with Michelin latex 18-20.
Absolutely noticeable gains coming from Kenda Kalientes with generic butyl tubes. Kalientes are close to the slowest tire ever, according to BTR.

I never even really gave it much thought really. I tend to always run 23's if using clinchers and they all seem the same to me. Is there really that much of a difference in tire choice for a TT?

I'm already on gp4000s or supersonics, which I assume have "decent" rolling resistance.. so like I said, I think aero (and power) is what's really holding me back from the top 5 at this point, not the tires. I understand that tires will make a difference, I'm just saying it's not enough for me to care right now. TTs are stupid anyway... =]
With aerobars slapped on my road bike, and no aero helmet, I have no illusions that new tires will take me from 25th place to the top 5.. do you?
