Anyone have experience with the Ambrosio or American Classic cassettes that let you use a Shimano/SRAM-hubbed wheel on a Campy drivetrain?

AC cassette on a TriSpoke with a DA freehub on a bike with 10s Record. The cassette is a bit wider, shifting was okay, but I had to adjust stuff when I went back to a regular Campy hub/cassette. For a TT or something it should be fine. Spokes will be close to the chain/der.

I find I have to slightly adjust the rear derrailleur no matter what wheels I'm swapping.
I am planning to carefully measure the axle locknut to small cog distances of my wheels, and make some cassette and/or axle shims so that all the wheels are the same. No more fiddling when swapping wheels.

Yes.. I've used the AC on my race wheels. No probs. Only complaint is, it seems that no two wheels have the exact same tolerances... regardless of whether they are full Campy or something else, the shifting is always a tiny bit "off" in one cog or another. Minor complaint.

Thanks, guys. This is good to know, and it doesn't sound like much more adjustment than necessary even when swapping SRAM to SRAM.

So, Over the last few days, I have read all 46 pages of this thread. Nearly the very first post I read back over on the 41 is the one that is now quoted in my signature......I nearly spewed coffee out of my nose, and then had to explain to my wife why it was so fargin' hilarious.

Garmin 800 question...I got the Edge500 and am thinking of getting an 800 for when my wife and I travel. This last trip to Georgia was our first experience with GPS in the car and I liked it. Thought having it on the bike when in unknown parts would be nice.
I assume to get the best out of the unit you need to get it with maps loaded?
I can get one here at MEC (Canada's version of REI) for a pretty good price, but it's only the unit...No maps, HR or speed/cadence sensor...I know I can purchase the maps separately if necessary...
Getting the bundle here at a LBS is kind of on the high side price wise...

I have a 705, but the 800 should work similarly.
There are free prebuilt maps already set up for Garmin use. Just download and use them. No map creating software is needed.
I posted a detailed procedure to download the correct map. It's easy.
~~~~~~~~~~
The 705 is kindof usable in a car, better than nothing, but I end up zooming in and out a lot if I'm using it for car navigation. I have occasionally uploaded a route to it before starting out, and that was helpful.
It does work very well on a bike with an uploaded route. The route shows as a purple line on the map, and can usually be set to prompt me for upcoming turns with a beep and a message.
I've done a lot of interesting routes in unfamiliar areas that would be complicated to ride with just a cue sheet or a paper map.
Local Cat 1 team (CCNS) will be on them this year. I'll peek at one when I get a chance. They have at least two very powerful riders (in the Cancellara/Boonen kind of style, willing to go in breaks but they sprint well too) and their boss is more like a timetrialling kind of guy.
105 vs Ultegra: big difference in quality?
I have read quite some info about the difference between 105 and Ultegra on quite a few review sites and blogs. While some says that they are almost the same except the weights difference. I found quite a few people saying that 105 is the cheap version of Ultegra, best value, yet the quality is low and not suitable for racing, due to the low quality of manufacturing of the 105.
My questions is: how much better is Ultegra compare to 105? is it worth the $$$ to upgrade from 105 to Ultegra?
(I posted this in 41, but perhaps here I will get some different response)
Tire question....Going to get a set of 50 carbon tubulars, first time on tubulars so this will be interesting
Have a choice between Vittoria CX's or CR's....Not familiar with Vittoria tubulars at all...
This will be predominately race day/fast group ride wheels...
How picky are you guys about saddles?
I ride a Selle Italia Flite on my road bike. Just got a track bike and am disliking the saddle that came with it (specialized Romin, with a cut out).
Should I just buy a Flite for it, or give it some time to break in?
I'm pretty picky myself, and coincidentally a Selle Italia Flite guy myself. If it were me, I'd go with what works.
It's a bike, it goes; you can win or lose on it..
I'm on one this year and like it - but it doesn't feel all that different than the 2008/9(?) Raleigh frame I was on before, just lighter and presumably stiffer.
I'll second mattm's note - you pedal, it goes.
I do quite like mine, the handling is a bit better than last year's, it tracks through turns better. Also, Raleigh cleaned up a few significant problems that the 2010/2011s had.
*note: yes, I'm sponsored- no, I didn't pay MSRP- yes, YMMV- no, I'm not just being a homer... I do really like the bike*
Resurrecting a fine old thread to ask:
Can anyone recommend a 25mm tubular? I see that the Vittoria Corsa CX comes in 25 and I'm wondering if there are any others I should consider.
Any preference for TT brake levers?
Wife wants a need TT bike, I shall inherit her old one, and I've got to start stocking up parts. Frame is set and it'll have Shimano shifters and derailleurs. I'm not sure on the brakes since the frame has an under BB rear brake and behind the fork front brake.
The simple solution would be Shimano brake levers, but I'm not sure if there's another option that provides better ergonomics and such...
TT equipment is not my forte...
