My wife won her Masters National TT title by being one of 2 ladies in her age group. She won it fair and square! She trained like she was racing against 100 women so it didn't matter. She put the time in, showed up and did the race!

She really wishes that more women would have turned up for the TT since they had a close to 10 for the RR, even though it probably would have meant a loss.

All of mine were, at least in part.

And the money I thought I would never see from my parents it looks like I'm going to see. They're getting a little money from my grandmother's estate and have decided to pay me back. Although they said 5-6k, and it's actually more like $9k that they owe me, but whatever.

I missed something.

Just curious, how much did you pay in room and board while growing up?

Plenty. I had chores, I had to mow the lawn, I paid for my own stuff (what little I got), I bought all my own cars with my own money from working, I had to buy my own lawn mower so I could get paid to mow the lawn. I paid for my own school, and they charged me rent for living in their condo during the summers. Sure, they paid for my room and board when I was young, but parents are supposed to do that without expecting anything in return. The fact they wanted to retire at 50 despite having no money isn't really my problem. I have a wife to support and we want kids soon, I can't support my parents too. I didn't get much of a free ride even when I was young, and I don't want to give them one now that they're "retired" (they're 56 and 60).

Damn, you can retire at 50, and have your kid foot the bills? Who knew? I need to have a talk with my daughter.

johnybutts 07-15-13 05:37 PM

Took today off to interview.

2 interviews. and going to have 2 second interviews later this week. I'm probably goign to be working a lot more. My riding will likely suffer. I'm *hoping* for at LEAST a 50% raise from my current pathetic wage. I'll have to earn my keep, though it should be a pleasant change.

caloso 07-15-13 05:50 PM

Just found out that I have received a 3% raise. I emailed Mrs. Caloso with the good news and added that now I guess I'll be able to afford the Ferarri after all. She replied "Great! Going with the traditional red?"

My daughter just turned 17 and got her first job at a pizza joint. Can't retire on min wage. And since she overslept by 4 hours, she might be looking for a new job ... D'oh

Just realized that the National Crit Chamoionships are only a hop, skip, jump and a short bike ride away. Might have to take it in. Anyone else going? July 25-28 in High Point, NC.

Maybe I should sell mine, that'll give me a nice nest egg to start with.

they're very different cities. from what i've seen boston definitely has less "bad" areas but there are a lot more good things about baltimore than people give it credit for and there's a sense of "baltimore pride" which is hard to describe. i enjoyed living there and wouldn't hate living there again in the future. the riding outside of baltimore is better than out of boston. boston has a more vibrant cycling community.

You been up and around lexington and concord yet? There are some gorgeous roads out there.

Also, you've been here a month (barely) and you haven't felt the boston pride yet? Do you ever go out?

It would be a bit difficult for Junior to support me when he's 5. Hm. I didn't plan this right.

Gotta love planned obsolescence - my wife's car, a 2008 Dodge Charger, has been in the shop since May 6, waiting on an ignition switch. The part is out of stock nationwide, and has >100 backordered. Chrysler Corp. has apparently not yet found a contractor to make more, and is apparently not in a hurry to find one either. I've got either two or three payments left on that thing, now it looks like I get to buy another car for my wife. It won't be a Chrysler product.

I should have had kids. Damn.

Don't worry Kensuf, you tend to put more in financially with them then you get in return... The intangibles are the positives :)

Speaking of which I have to pay my son's photo radar ticket from his trip through Quebec...(car is in my name so it comes to me...He'll pat me)

Those were the National Amateur Championships. The one in High Point, NC in a week and a half is the National Pro Crit Championship.

And they also are having amateur races there too. I've done the races there the last two or three years. It's a good course. The Pro course is a nice figure eight.
