The public perception of cycling is finally changing. It's a wonderful thing to behold. When I was yelled at, I didn't hear "Go Lance!" it was "Chris Froome!". Marvelous.

Wouldn't tightening the retention screws and changing the cleats solve this as well?

Raced with a half rack of broken ribs. Actually rode ok, though based on whatever meds I had taken my HR was off the chain. 207 in the final sprint. It was a **** show though and my awesome position was for naught when someone deviated from their line and everyone went abraking. So it goes. Tenth. Nats are off the calendar, as is the last race in this series. Handful of races left and then two weeks in Maine for a soft landing into Labor Day.

Yep, new cleats did the trick, thanks guys. Weird that it happened so quickly and on both cleats at once. The old ones didn't look much different, but it stopped clicking, so whatever.

The ones I got from the LBS are the non rubber walking ones, they have the white stuff. Gonna have to dig out my cleat covers so I don't die. New ones were also slightly skinnier than the old ones, which made my markings on where to put them not that helpful.

Positively or negatively, in this case?

That's definitely beer-worthy. Not PBR, either...the good stuff.

Ok, hot shot, you can buy it for me for all the help I've given you over the years.

The Riken is performing well. We will see how it lasts.

Having a Peak Organic IPA right now. Is that beer snob approved?

jest aside, hope it works well. i really do wish Quarq the best.

as for beer, i ain't the snob. Drinking something i got from TJ's which comes out to be slightly more than $1 a bottle. Earlier i had Dogfishhead's Festina Peche, which is peach flavored, but may be slightly sweet. Goes down easy though as it's only 4.5%.

and organic beer, damn you fancy

I'm more of a malt-head than a hop-head, but to answer your question. Yes, approved.

I love reading sport science articles that involve deception. It is fascinating how much our brain controls our performance (aka central governor model). If you provide athletes with deceptive feedback it changes their performance even if they report that all efforts were all-out.

Your biased-low power meter may have helped you. For one you were probably completing prescribed workouts at a higher intensity, secondly if you reference the meter during races a biased-low number may increase the chance that you believe you can hold that to the line. "I know I can do 320W for 6min..." when really you did 330W for 6min).

Fast and/or slow clocks make for interesting phenomenon too, I want to give WR a clock that runs just a bit off and have him do a "60s" interval that is actually 55s or 65s and see what effect that has.

Unknown duration intervals are where this stuff really shows, tell people to go all-out until a whistle blows and you will get wacked performances...

Enthalpic, it really does. Not that I am a numbers junkie like chappy. It's just that you train so hard for so long and your metrics say you aren't going anywhere whe you know form when you feel it. It's frustrating. I feel bad for my coach. It throws everything off. Yes I am training harder than planned, but on the other side, rest is compromised.

Its been a crappy season except for the beginning anyways. Maybe I can pull off some results at some point.

Nice weekend so far...

Friday went and got my first tattoo with my wife, she added 3 to her body. Drove home through a wicked lightening display and made it home just before the heavens opened. The negative there was the power was out and it didn't come back on until mid-morning. That resulted in breakfast at Starbucks and then a nice 2hr trek with her. Power was back on when we got home, so nothing was spoiled since it was out a max of 14hrs. There were lots of trees and limbs down and you could see where localized flash flooding had occurred. Not a good night for lots of people I'm sure.

After getting some food in our bellies we headed to Waterloo for a memorial ride for a local cyclist who was killed a year ago when he was out on a Sunday ride with his wife. They had been riding down a rural road, single file, he was in the back. She heard a thud and saw her husband fly over her right shoulder. Hearing about that at incident kind of freaked me out since my wife and I do those kinds of rides all the time. Then to lighten things up we headed out for dinner and went to see Despicable Me 2...Lots of Laughs!

Today is a local hammer ride, we'll see how that goes....

Yesterday I did the 86 mile ride in the mountains that I did last month when I had the terrible nausea and had to struggle on the climbs in the second half. This time there were about 60 riders and a sag car with water and the stomach only bothered me a little before the climb up to 7000 feet. Clouds came in and the temp dropped, which was wonderful.
On the final descent from 7000 feet down to 2000, we had light rain, which was amazing. Still out there 8+ hours.

My power meter is accurate. It says that if you can't breathe, you can't make power.
