what do you guys do for upper back/neck/shoulder pain? It's been coming and going for what feels like forever (probably only a month). Particularly bad right now, centered around that upper sticky out vertabrae before your neck starts. I've tried to stretch it, taken some ibuprofen (not sure if this helps or hurts), etc. Driving me crazy.

Bah, the boy is moving home. This is the oldest one, the one how moved out about 4yrs ago. It's odd, he's got a good job and living here involves a 45-60min commute...

I had assumed my youngest would be calling with the request to move in since his decision not to go the uni route is probably causing some friction with mom and step-dad. If that does happen then the brothers will be wrestling for the room while the other gets the futon in the training room

yeah, pro fit is on the list for this off season.

Also, the Vector, $1700 to be an early adopter (read: beta tester) is insane. I really doubt they're gonna move many of those, which is a shame. It's a freaking pedal with some sensors in it, how could it possibly be that expensive? Trying to recoup all their R&D early on I assume, plus cover the cost of the 50% of them they'll have to replace when they start breaking.

When they're $1000 and have been proven I'll certainly get one. Would definitely be nice to run whatever wheels I want, and be able to have one power meter for the track and road bikes, just swap pedals out.

I don't see anything in this article that makes me want to swap from my extremely stable Quarq Riken I've had for a few months. Pedals can be a biotch to swap, I always end up with bloody hands. And with the new powertap prices, that would definitely be the better approach for most people at this time.

Any recs for a good air purifier? Long story short, I just moved into a new apartment with a person I didn't really know, and he failed to mention the two cats living there as well. I'm allergic. I'm not happy.

Whether or not you're a "beta tester" depends on whether they've taken the time to finish the product or not. Buying in on the first run doesn't necessarily make you a beta tester, and $1700 is no more unreasonable a price than other upstart power meter manufacturers have charged for their first products (specifically, I'm thinking of Quarq). And these sensors, and the software that controls them, are expensive. I'm not sure why people continue to refuse to believe this. Of course, I have no idea whether the performance of the product justifies the price, but neither do you just yet. Not that I'm saying this because I plan on running out and getting one; if/when I get a power meter, I will probably go the PTap or Stages route. The Vector doesn't have a whole lot of appeal for me.

The only interesting thing from the garmin power pedal article is that they may in the future offer single pedals. $1700 for two power meters (that is, two pedals) is more than many people will want to spend. While acknowledging the limits of measuring power on one side only, $850 for a single power meter (one pedal) is a more reasonable price point.

I can't imagine folks are even willing to take the time to read about those things any longer. I feel dirty even responding like this.

So, I think I'm going to head over to the Wednesday night all-comers track meet a couple towns over tonight to race a 400 meter dash. Because I'm insane. I figure, what, about a minute of unbelievable anaerobic agony can't do me any lasting harm, right? I haven't done any kind of foot racing in about a decade, but I was pretty good at those long sprints in high school. Maybe it'll even be fun.

I hear you. But the article says the "headed to shops and distributors now, and consumer availability will begin immediately." If this is still vaporware hype, it's taking it to a new level. Maybe the boxes are empty?

you can't get there from here.

but really, I have a huge hepa air filter that runs 24/7 and it does nothing. the cats will produce more dander, and are already so implanted on that space that you're in for it.

ime, after 4 months my body gave up and I stopped being allergic (to a specific dog).

I doubt I am the only one who could sell 2 quarqs, use the money to buy the vector pedals and use the remainder against a TT bike which I could then also use the pedals on.

And $1700? You guys don't know aaannnnyyybody?

You're doing it wrong. Pedal at 3:00. Wrench at 8:00 or 9:00. Lean on pedal and wrench equally.

TUE is not required for Albuterol. Sadly, I know this b/c I read up on it when I got EIA last year. I don't race w/o my inhaler, because it's about 50-50 I'll get a devastating asthma attack the instant the race is over. W/O the inhaler ready to use, it's just too scary. The inhaler is magic, though.

Rankin - consider that the advance of your asthma and your new catty living situation may very well be related. Asthma & allergies are related. It might be worth seeing a doc about maintenance meds. It also might be worth moving.

i dont think that'll work. if you're allergic to them, you need to treat it medically and keep the cats out of your room to the extent practicable. try a cheap baby gate on the door of your room, that way you still have air circulation for heating and cooling vs. shutting the door, and keep the cats off of your bed, carpet, rugs, etc. for treatment, there are lots of otc stuff for allergies nowadays. i'm not a doc, so this advice is worth what you're paying for it, but i use cetirizine (generic zyrtec) and find it works well for treating allergies i have related to our dog and cat; when seasonal allergies kick in, i keep some benedryl around for nightime use. loratidine is generic claritan, some people find it works better for them, and there's allegra sold otc now too. try each for a while and figure out which one is most effective.

or pedal at 5 and wrench at 9 and pull up...

Just don't do what I did and forget to take the pedals off when packing the bike into a box. I realized it late and pedals are a ***** to get off when the bike's disassembled.

All the time. It's actually not bad when I'm on the bike, it's really bad when I wake up in the morning and gets better throughout the day. A ride actually helps usually.

And don't forget the chain on the big chainring, that keeps you from impaling yourself if you silp.

Just an FYI, but be careful using foam rollers on your back. They can be very helpful, but you can also do some serious damage if you don't know what you are doing.
