I gave blood this morning. Normally I just give platelets and plasma so I can keep my RBCs, but kids' soccer and other family commitments have pretty much ended my road race season for the year, so I told them they can have those too. But mostly it's an excuse to eat Oreos (relatively) guilt free.

Flatballer, it's supposed to be fun. Do whatever makes it that way.
grolby, yeah, it can be interesting to see how your body responds to things.

It's 0330 on a Saturday and my alarm went off for me to get ready for bike ride. That's about 30 minutes earlier than usual for me. my ex gf is texting me presumably drunk and acting like getting up to ride bikes this early is weird.
Normal people just don't get it.

Yeah, sorry, getting up at 3:30 AM for a normal ride (not race) actually is crazy, at least a little. Even your more usual time of 4 AM is kind of crazy.

fuggitivo solitario
s***, i may need to start doiing that. but then again, racing season has looooooooong been over, and i don't have the motivation to get up that early to train. Maybe in October when i'm back on structured training again.

efffff that... even when it's 8 million degrees out here in Tejas... I'll roll at dawn, that's a 6 wakeup call for me and that's only when I'm secure in the knowledge that I'll get an afternoon nap in the coooool A/C.

i tried to wake up today at 7. That didn't work out at all. I ended up waking up at 8 and rolling out the door at 8:30. I need at least 5 hours of sleep if i want to be productive and ride.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯

For today's race I had a choice of 3/4 or 40+ fields. I had a buddy in the 40+ so I figured what the heck, I'll try my first masters race.
It was great! A much more enjoyable experience than racing with the aggro kids. Smoother, more predictable, more matter-of-fact. I helped chased down a couple of breaks, hammered the descents and had a lot of fun. I hung in until about 50m from the top of the last climb (mile 62/78) but I just didn't have any more. I think I finished around mid pack, they were still sorting out the results when I left.
I think it's masters fields for me from here out. It was basically all of the fun of bike racing without any of the crap. I had zero chance of a podium, but the experience was positive enough that I don't really care.

I was signed up but decided that it was best to have my 2013 race season receding in the rear view mirror.
Congrats on your first race with the big boys.

Yeah, I saw your name on the list (that was part of why I decided to race that field!) and was sorry not to see you there. It was a lovely day out too.

I've been weighing myself before and after work like I do for a hot ride. This week I'm 2-4 pounds lighter after work and I drink a gallon or more of water and have lunch. Hot weather has kicked my ass, couldn't climb well today.
Did have two rear flats and the tire split open on the last climb after bombing 50ish mph descents earlier. Vittoria Open Corsa EVO CX II. Most expensive tire I ever bought and this is the second one to come to an untimely demise.

I go to bed after 2.5 men at 8.
Remember it's 100 degrees at 0900 some days. You have to plan around that.

Yeah. Tomorrow I will probably be on the road at 0530. Got a full day of kid soccer and chores, plus it'll be 101 in the afternoon.
