I met my wife about 16 years ago. We've been married for 10 of that. It's not always perfect, but it's generally pretty damned good. She definitely got the short end of that stick.

As far as gifts go, I buy plenty of them. I figure when I buy bike stuff, it's like her buying me a gift, so I try to even things up on holidays. This Christmas she got a Canon 70D camera body that she's wanted for 2(?) years. Was it expensive? Yes. Was it worth it to make her happy? Yes. She works plenty of 60 hour weeks, not to mention holding down the fort when I have to travel. At the end of the day, she'll probably get more mileage out of that camera than I will out of the CL mountain bike I bought in August. Hell, she took not quite 3000 shots the first day (no exaggeration).

It's about to get real...

Going to drop off the retainer at the lawyer's office...

Ex and I are communicating so I don't see any real issues. We'll be meeting for coffee on Sunday so she gets a chance to see my youngest son and say bye. She's known him since he was 4, he's now 18. She still hasn't talked to my oldest boy, who lives with us/me, but I figured I'd make the first move. The kids had nothing to do with the issues between us and it's not fair to them to be left out in the cold. They aren't saying much about the whole thing, but I'm sure it's affecting them.

I did for a little while when I was younger. I got a used ball instead of spending 20 minutes trying to find one that fits. One day a guy comes up to me and says the ball is his. Turns out he was supposed to get it redrilled or something and they sold it to me instead ..... ooops.

I was never a very good bowler. Had to grab the heaviest ball I could find on the shelf or my wrist would turn on release and I'd throw all sorts of curves all over the place. Doesn't help that I'm 6'3 with a bad back.

As someone who went through basically the same situation(parents split when I was 19) being upfront and letting them know what's going on will go a long way. Make sure that you offer them an ear if they want it along with someone outside of the family to talk to as well.

Watch out; racing is the big test; disappearing every weekend for races hours away can be rough for any relationship.
That clinic in San Diego I've convinced my gf to come along and go sight seeing in San Diego once I'm done. She agreed.

I've got a pretty full road schedule lined up and frankly, I care a little less than I did before. It's not like we have kids or she has some grand plan to do something on the weekends? Instead of going to races, I'd likely be out riding anyways, and if not that then I'd be just doing chores around the house(wtf boring).

I wish my gf would find a hobby...

Get her into photography. Then have her shoot at your races. Gets her there with something to do and she gets lots of practice!

I have to give my wife time for her stuff, so I can't book every weekend.

We have a couple 100k of frequent flyer points to burn off, which probably will go towards a trip to Boston, New Orleans, and maybe Miami (again). We've also been toying with going to Barcelona or Amsterdam. I've got to keep a few weekends open for that. Last year we gave a few trips to relatives, but it backfired as some of the others demanded free flights.

I know these are major life problems which have probably birthed many tears, thanks for letting me share the struggle.
