Whatever little bit of race fitness I had a month and a half ago (wasn't much...but I had high hopes for the rest of the season) is pretty much gone. Been trying to figure out whatever is going on with my right leg (I think I figured it out)...hopefully I can get back to doing intervals soon and pull something together for the last couple of races that I have planned

Did some 15" sprints this morning as last prep before Ironhill Twilight Crit on Saturday, hoping to have a good first race and qualify for the finals at night. Rain is in the forecast so that could make things interesting. Also doing Bob Rodale Fitness Park Crit on Sunday

Heat related failure last night. 105F when I left the office and had an hour to do a set of 2' and 1' intervals. Got about 75% through my session and it just wasn't happening. Discretion being the better part of valor, I shut it down and rode easily home to take a cold shower and sit in the A/C.

Day 7 post op:
Starting to feel better riding - today's ride almost felt like a real workout, for the first time in 3 weeks.
1 hour Z2 with 5x1x9 at 145%
Threw in some abs afterwards, one set hollow hold with 30 normal flutters, 30 flutters side-to-side, 30 high flutters and a few slow v-ups to almost failure.

Sac River Ride last night. So flipping hot and spent way too much time on the front either pulling, attacking, or responding to attacks. Fun ride though.

nothing special, just a combination of being lazy and saving the gf the trouble of helping me set it up.
she's done just about everything for me for the past month or so that I've been an invalid..
plus the bike has a big crack in the downtube, not even sure if it's safe to ride. honestly guess I'm just not in a huge hurry to get back on it, tho i do miss riding and racing of course..

what factors went into you deciding not to get it plated? with the amount of pain/grinding i had, i can't imagine living that way. curious as to how long that pain actually lasted for you.

Hydrostatic Body Fat test yesterday. Down to 5%. Gained 2 lbs of muscle and lost 1.5 lbs of fat over the last 5 months. I've had this done every few months for the last 4 years so I now have a lot of good data. Big correlation between anaerobic power and lean mass as you might expect.
Patterson Pass tomorrow, very excited, starting to get anxious. The field looks beatable so far...

there's no way the clavicle would heal without it, or if it would it would take forever.
it was a "distal third" break, out near my shoulder, which is why I have to wear the sling for 3 more weeks.

No training for months, got hit by a truck about 3 weeks ago and have broken back, neck, ribs, and clavicle, and both lungs were collapsed when the accident happened.

bmcphx I'm so glad to see you back and communicating. That was a scary couple of weeks! I know you're not fully out of the woods yet but I'm happy for what you've gotten back.

I'm pulling the plug on the rest of the season. I was signed up to race today but early this morning I just couldn't do it, my poor kid was up all night crying again, and it seemed too unfair to leave the family for 6 hours to go do a stupid bike race. It seems equally unfair to spend hours training and racing while the boy is recuperating. When he's back on his feet in September I'll think about racing again.
Instead I did the Saturday AM team ride, not-racing-today edition. Felt tired on the ride but afterwards was surprised at the good numbers. On the big climb I felt like everyone was going at an unusually casual pace, but I almost set a PR on the climb -- previous similar times (including just 2 weeks ago) felt much, much harder. Including the approach to the climb, it was a 15 minute power PR. Then a 5-15 second power PR at the end to win the sprint, the 2nd sprint in a row I've ridden away from everybody.
So obviously the fitness has clicked up a notch. Hopefully I can carry some of it over to next season.

Good call, GC. The kid needs you more than the bike does. Hope he's feeling better soon!

Late start to the day and had planned for 80 miles with some rollers at an easy pace. Got about 25 miles in and temps hit 111F and I was hurting, turned around and rode home for about 50 miles. Just too hot today.

Yesterday was not that great, not recovered from Wednesday's fest and just didn't have the legs to attempt to eclipse my 2 KOM's or for that matter the day's entire 103km ride average speed and time.
Will see what today's 110-120km feels like but legs were not pleased on the stairs this morning. Tomorrow they'll really be pissed..
