Never used to be a morning person, but after a couple of weeks of CONSISTENTLY getting up early, my internal clock reset itself, or so it seems.

Green Valley is like a mini highway loaded with the SUVs going up the hill. You usually only need to be on it for about 2-3 miles to get from Folsom to EDH and then you can jump off to Salmon Falls or Malcom-Dixon (to Deer Valley).
The "road" mentioned above is the Folsom South Canal that picks up near the Fish Hatchery at Hazel.

I tend to be a bit cowardly (safety first!) when it comes to riding on busy roads. Sometimes there is no getting around them. One of my old co workers used to say, 'You have every right to ride on it' and I kept explaining to him, that's not the point.

Because there's less wind and traffic at 6 AM. Besides, it increases your awesomeness.

After that it wasn't bad at all, really nice ride up Salmon Creek, then to Auburn Folsom Rd. Natoma was busy and everyone but me was riding on a mup. I probably had a record for close calls (3) on that strip of Green Valley.

edit: just looked at my ride from Sunday, hit 1100 watts (53mph and 140 rpm) on the 15% descent. Two of us got away for a bit on that one.
The MUP on Natoma is hit or miss in terms of traffic. There was actually an incident out there last week where a cyclist plowed into a runner. The runner remains in a coma, sadly.

Sounds like you did the Lake Loop or some variation of it? The descent out of Auburn down A-F is one of my favorites. There is a Saturday ride that runs through there and that descent is a good place to split the group and get 6-8 guys rotating hard down to Folsom.

I'm sure some of you have legit reasons to sleep in and ride at night, or you work early in the day and can't get the time, that's fine, but if you're just being a ***** about it and don't like getting up in the morning, you've got the wrong mindset for racing bikes I fear.

It's a good ride, good scenery, some climbing and descending, too. Countless variations that you can spin off of that, too, to add another 5 to 50 miles.

Perhaps I'll clarify my statement then. Saying you don't want to get up early sounds very teenagerish to me.
Nonsense

Canned my ride this morning, I felt like total crap. I had intended to do shovelhd intervals (an hr at ~85% with a 20" sprint every 5', no recovery), but shut it down after the third sprint or so. Later at work I have low energy, sore-ish throat, and left early. Additionally, I think I slightly pulled something in my right hamstring during one of the sprints, probably due to insufficient warm-up. Yay me.
I'll be taking it easy the rest of the week. I expect to feel better by the weekend, when I would like to race Rosena Ranch on Sat, and do a long ride on Sun.

Well I wouldn't go that far, I just meant let's stick to "fighting" about more meaningful things!

Never again for me and morning training. I'm not a morning person and I was in the pool at 5:15 AM three days a week. I doubt those scars will ever heal. Night training every weekday is a habit that I've had since high school anyhow, so since one way is easy for me, and the other I hate... I'm doing the day method!
